I. Where does golden cicada flower grow?

Golden cicada flower is mostly distributed in the southern provinces of China. The bamboo cicada is commonly found in moso bamboo production areas and is an important host of Paecilomyces cicadae. This insect has 1 generation every 6 years, with 5 instars per generation, and lives in the soil year-round, with older nymphs being the most susceptible to disease. When the temperature is 18-24°C and the relative humidity is >80% in the warm, humid season, older nymphs active in the shallow soil layer come into contact with infected soil and become infected. By June and July of the following year, when temperature and humidity are suitable, light yellow or egg-yellow synnemata grow from the front end of the diseased, dead insect body, break through the surface soil, and extend toward the ground surface, forming the cicada flower we commonly see.
