How much does Sichuan pepper seed cost per jin? A detailed guide to its uses and planting methods
Sichuan pepper seed, also known as Sichuan pepper powder, is a product made by extracting the aroma and flavor compounds from Sichuan pepper into edible vegetable oil. So roughly how much does Sichuan pepper seed cost per jin? What can it be used for? Can it be planted? How is it planted? According to a Jiangxi seed company, the price of Sichuan pepper seed is about 60-70 yuan/jin, with a sowing rate of 10-12 jin per mu, and it can be sown in spring, summer and autumn.

What can Sichuan pepper seed be used for?
1. At the very least, Sichuan pepper seed is a seed and can be used for raising seedlings;
2. The alpha-linolenic acid content in Sichuan pepper seed is as high as 30%, and alpha-linolenic acid has effects such as lowering blood lipids, softening blood vessels, benefiting the brain and promoting blood circulation, so using Sichuan pepper seed to extract alpha-linolenic acid is also a good choice;
3. Sichuan pepper seed is rich in oil, so it can be used to extract Sichuan pepper oil, and the by-products can be used to make biological fertilizer;
4. Although Sichuan pepper is good for seasoning, when Sichuan pepper seed is used for seasoning, it does not have the strong fragrance of Sichuan pepper itself.
Can Sichuan pepper seed be planted? How is it planted?
Sichuan pepper seed can be planted.
1. Seed treatment:
Seed treatment: The seed coat of Sichuan pepper is hard, oily and impermeable, making germination relatively difficult, so before sowing it must first undergo degreasing treatment and storage. For autumn sowing, soak the seeds in alkaline water, using 0.025 kg of alkaline powder for 1 kg of seeds, adding water until the seeds are submerged, remove empty and shriveled grains, soak for 2 days, rub and wash off the oil on the seed coat, then remove and rinse clean with clear water before sowing. For spring sowing, methods such as stratified sand storage, mixing with cow dung, mixing and piling with horse dung, or storage in a small pit can be used to treat the seeds. Stratified sand storage is the conventional treatment method; mixing with cow dung means using 6 parts fresh cow dung and 1 part Sichuan pepper seeds, mixing them evenly, burying them in a pit 30 cm deep for winter storage, then taking them out the following spring before sowing, breaking them up, and sowing together with the cow dung; mixing and piling with horse dung means from mid-March to mid-April, mixing water-selected Sichuan pepper seeds with 3 parts horse dung and piling them in sunlight, turning them until they sprout white and then sowing; storage in a small pit means digging a pit, filling it with water and storing over winter.
2. Sowing: Sowing is divided into spring sowing and autumn sowing. In spring-drought areas, sowing before the soil freezes in autumn is better, as seedlings emerge uniformly and 10-15 days earlier than with spring sowing; spring sowing is generally around the time of "Spring Equinox." Sow 25 kg per mu. For seedling raising in small beds, drilling in furrows can be used, with 4 rows per bed, row spacing of 20 cm, furrow depth of 5 cm, and soil cover of 1 cm, sowing 4-6 kg per mu; after sowing, cover the bed surface with grass to retain moisture, and remove it in stages after seedlings emerge. The ridge-building method can also be used for seedling raising; for autumn sowing, open a furrow 1 cm deep and 9 cm wide every 24-27 cm, evenly scatter the seeds into the furrow, and after sowing pile soil from both sides onto the furrow. After spring begins, check the seed germination in time; if a few seeds have cracked open, scrape off part of the covering soil, leaving 2-3 cm, and after 5-7 days, when most seeds have cracked open, scrape off more covering soil, keeping the covering soil about 1 cm thick, so that the seedlings will soon emerge completely. If spring sowing uses seeds that have been pregerminated, the seedlings can emerge 4-5 days after sowing and emerge completely in about 10 days. This method is suitable for areas prone to spring drought.
3. Seedling stage management: When seedlings are 4-5 cm tall, thin and set the seedlings, keeping a spacing of 10-15 cm. During the seedling growth period, in June and July, apply 3000-4500 kg of human manure and urine per mu, or 10-25 kg of chemical fertilizer; fertilization should be combined with irrigation, and after application, cultivate and weed in time. Sichuan pepper seedlings are most afraid of waterlogging; when the rainy season arrives, the nursery must do a good job of waterlogging prevention and drainage. One-year-old seedlings reach 70-100 cm in height and can then be lifted from the nursery for afforestation.
