How do you plant tulip seeds?
The seed propagation of tulips is mostly used for breeding new varieties. The seeds are harvested before the capsule matures and splits open, stored in sand until October, and then sown indoors in pots. Keep them moist; they only germinate the following spring. They bloom in about 3-4 years.
1. Do not forget to disinfect the bulbs before planting. Formalin or carbendazim solution will both work. Soak the bulbs in the disinfectant solution for about 30 minutes. In addition, as needed, you can also drip in a few drops of gibberellic acid, which can promote bulb germination.
2. Tulip bulbs have a layer of grayish-brown skin on the outside. Generally, peeling off the skin before planting can increase the speed of germination and rooting, which is good for growth.
3. The substrate soil used for cultivation can be appropriately mixed with some slow-release compound fertilizer as a base fertilizer. If there is no substrate soil, sandy soil will also do; the soil is required to be fertile and to have good water permeability and air permeability.
4. Before planting, first put some base soil in the flower pot, then place the bulbs in. Place the bulbs in the center, upright. The planting depth is generally 1.5 times the size of the bulb. Decide how many to plant in one pot according to the size of the pot. Generally, a 20cm pot can plant 3 plants in a triangular shape.
5. When filling with soil, press appropriately around the flower pot with your fingers, which can better fix the bulbs. Do not press on the bulb part in the center, otherwise it is easy to damage. After pressing, just fill it level loosely. Generally, water thoroughly once immediately after planting, and afterward keep the soil moist until germination.
