Mimosa pudica, also known as sensitive plant, zhixiu grass, huhe grass, pa chou grass, jianxiao grass, husband-and-wife grass, and shy grass, is a common flower in China. Because it is easy to grow and has high ornamental value, it is widely cultivated. So, does Mimosa pudica bloom? When does it bloom? Does it die after blooming? How do you care for it?

It does bloom, usually in midsummer. Among the green grass, its pale purple-pink flowers, fluffy and soft, look especially delicate and shy, while the slender branches and leaves make the plump, round blossoms appear even more charming and vivid.

Bloom time:

The blooming period of Mimosa pudica is from July to October. It takes about 5 days from bud to bloom. After blooming, it forms pods in autumn, with seeds inside, and the segments fall off when mature.

Does it die after blooming?

No. Like other plants, Mimosa pudica also blooms and sets seed, so after producing purple flowers it will form seeds, but not every flower will necessarily produce seeds.

How do you care for it?

1. Before Mimosa pudica sprouts, do not water it. Cover it with plastic film to keep it warm and moist. If the temperature inside the pot is too high, use reed curtains as shade to moderate the temperature of the seedbed.

2. After all the Mimosa pudica seedlings have emerged, if there is no wilting or withering, try not to water again in order to harden the seedlings and prevent excessive growth of the leaves and stems.

3. If the potting soil of Mimosa pudica is too dry and needs watering, it is best to water after sunset, using a watering can to sprinkle water. When watering, wet and soak the growing medium thoroughly. Do not water at noon when the light is abundant and the sun is strong. Water Mimosa pudica once in the morning and once in the evening each day. Each watering should maintain a certain amount, neither too much nor letting the potting soil dry out. It is best to sprinkle water from above the Mimosa pudica.

4. When lifting the seedlings of Mimosa pudica, thin them twice so that the distance between each seedling remains about 4-5cm. When the seedlings grow to more than about 8-10cm, move them out of the pot and place them in the open ground to continue growing, or transplant them into new pots for final planting.

5. Mimosa pudica actually has fairly strong vitality and needs watering every day, but it does not need fertilizing. After about three months of watering, the seedlings will grow larger and bloom and set seed. Cultivation should not be rushed.

6. During cultivation, pay attention to the troubles of various pests and diseases, and try not to use pesticides on Mimosa pudica.
