Distribution Areas, Cultivation Methods and Main Uses of Philodendron 'Heartleaf'
Philodendron 'Heartleaf' (Philodendron spp.), a plant in the genus Philodendron under the family Araceae, gets its name because its leaves closely resemble a heart shape. It is a climbing vine with strong climbing ability, heart-shaped deep green leaves, and is an elegant foliage plant. So, where is Philodendron 'Heartleaf' mainly distributed? How is it cultivated? What uses does it have?

Where is Philodendron 'Heartleaf' mainly distributed?
Suitable regions: South China, the southern subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest zone (major cities: Fuzhou, Xiamen, Quanzhou, Zhangzhou, Guangzhou, Foshan, Shunde, Dongguan, Huizhou, Shantou, Taipei, Liuzhou, Guiping, Gejiu)
Tropical monsoon forest and rainforest zone (major cities: Haikou, Sanya, Qionghai, Kaohsiung, Tainan, Shenzhen, Zhanjiang, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Macao, China, Hong Kong, China, Nanning, Qinzhou, Beihai, Maoming, Jinghong)
How is Philodendron 'Heartleaf' cultivated?
1. Cutting propagation
The best time is from May to September. Cut healthy stems with 2 to 3 nodes and insert them directly into coarse sand or sphagnum moss, keeping them moist at a temperature of 22 to 24°C. Roots form 20 to 25 days after insertion. Seed propagation: sow in indoor seedling trays; the optimum germination temperature is 25% to 30%; germination occurs 10 to 15 days after sowing; when seedlings reach 5 to 6 cm in height, transplant them into 8 cm pots. Division propagation: when the plant grows taller, cut off side branches with aerial roots and pot them directly, or first pinch off the growing tips to encourage more branching; when the side branches reach 15 to 20 cm, cut them off together with their aerial roots and pot them.
2. Tissue culture propagation
At present, countries such as the United States, Israel and Australia all use tissue culture to propagate Philodendron in large quantities. Stem tips or axillary buds are used as explants. After routine disinfection, they are inoculated onto MS medium supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurine at 4 mg/L and indoleacetic acid at 2 mg/L. After 6 to 8 weeks, callus tissue and adventitious buds grow. The adventitious buds are then transferred to 1/2 MS medium supplemented with indoleacetic acid at 2 mg/L, and in about 3 to 4 weeks new roots are induced, forming complete small plantlets.
3. Water culture
The best time is from May to September. Cut healthy stems with 2 to 3 nodes and place them directly into a container with water. Be careful not to let direct sunlight hit them. Roots will finish forming in about 20 days. Do not apply fertilizer. Wait until the roots grow to a green color, and it is a new plant.
