Sophora flavescens (dried root of the legume Sophora flavescens) seed price per jin, profit per mu, and profitable growing methods
Sophora flavescens, also known as Dihuai, Haohanzhi, Shanhuaizi and Yehuai, is a fairly common leguminous plant in China, widely used medicinally for its insecticidal and diuretic effects. So how much does Sophora flavescens seed generally cost per jin? How much can you earn growing one mu? How do you grow it profitably?

Sophora flavescens seed price:
The market price of Sophora flavescens seed is roughly between 25 yuan and 50 yuan per jin. The seed price varies according to regional differences.
Growing benefit analysis:
Per mu, investment in seed, fertilizer, water and electricity and other costs is about 500 yuan. Yield of dried product per mu is 700-800 kg, with a comprehensive benefit per mu of 5,000-8,000 yuan and an average annual income of more than 2,000 yuan. Seed yield is also high, around 100 kg, and as demand for Sophora flavescens seed increases, its price has risen and the market also purchases it; seed alone brings an income of 1,000 yuan.
Growing techniques:
1. Site selection and land preparation: Sophora flavescens is a deep-rooted plant. It is best to choose deep, fertile, well-drained sandy loam and clay loam. Apply compound fertilizer, plow 20—25 cm deep, break up the soil finely and level it, and make beds 1.5 m wide.
2. Sowing time. Either spring or autumn sowing is fine. After autumn sowing, mulching is needed, otherwise the soil surface tends to crust, which is bad for emergence in spring. Autumn sowing should be early rather than late; sow as soon as the seeds mature, and finish sowing before the soil freezes at the latest. Spring sowing should be done around Qingming, when soil moisture is good, which helps emergence.
3. Seed harvesting and treatment. In August-September when the seeds mature, select robust plants free of pests and diseases for seed collection. After collecting the pods, thresh them, remove impurities and dry them for later use. Before sowing, mix the seeds with fine sand at 1:1 and rub them to scarify the seed coat. This is because Sophora flavescens seeds include hard seeds, that is, seeds with a hard coat that is impermeable to water and air, so they will not germinate even under suitable conditions. Seeds treated by sand scarification show a significantly higher germination rate.
4. Sowing. Before sowing, soak the sand-scarified seeds in water at 50°C for 24 hours, then on the prepared ridges open holes at a plant spacing of 30 cm, or on the prepared beds open holes at a row and plant spacing of 60X30 cm, with holes 10 cm deep. Put a handful of manure in each hole, cover with a layer of soil, sow 3-5 seeds per hole, cover with fine soil 2-3 cm, and sow 3-5 kg per mu.
