Strawberry, also known as yangmei, dimei, diguo, hongmei, and strawberry, is a common fruit in our country. It usually comes on the market around May 1, and the price is a little expensive, so many people grow it. So how much is strawberry seed per jin? When to sow? When does it ripen and come on the market? How to grow it so it bursts with fruit?

Seed price:

Strawberry is one of the more expensive fruits, and the price of its seeds is relatively expensive too. The market price per jin is about 800-1200, but each jin contains about 100,000 seeds. Usually only one jin of seeds is needed per mu of land.

Ripening and market time:

Strawberries ripen around February to March, and the real big harvest is in April to May. Depending on the region, the time they come on the market differs slightly. Generally, when spring temperatures rise above 5 degrees, the plants begin to sprout, and the optimum growth temperature is 20-26 degrees. In the Jiangsu area, they sprout in late February, bloom in early to mid-April, and the fruit ripens in mid to late May. In autumn, when the temperature is below 17 degrees and under short-day conditions of 10-12 hours, flower bud differentiation occurs, and in winter there is a short period of dormancy.

Planting time:

During the flower bud differentiation stage, the temperature must be kept at 5-15℃, with an optimum temperature of 15-22℃. Strawberry roots grow at 5-30℃, buds suffer frost damage at -15-10℃, and shading measures need to be taken. Strawberry seedlings can theoretically be planted all year round, and the flowering and fruiting stage is 4-40℃. Strawberries like a warm and cool climate. When the temperature is above 30℃ and the sunlight is strong, as long as it is not lower than 5 degrees it is fine. The optimum temperature for stem and leaf growth is 20-30℃.

Seed planting techniques:

1. Germination

To increase the germination rate, before sowing we usually need to soak and germinate strawberry seeds. Soaking usually takes one day, and germination should preferably be kept in a low-temperature environment of 0-3℃ for about 2 weeks. Of course, other methods can also be used for germination, which are not described in detail here.

2. Sowing

Because strawberry seeds are relatively small, sowing should be done very carefully. The recommended method is to sow with the help of a seedling tray, or use seedling blocks together with a seedling box. If this process is too troublesome or the conditions are not available, you can mix some fine sand with humus, put it into a flowerpot, and sow directly in the culture soil.

3. Seedling raising

During the seedling stage, we mainly do a good job in water and fertilizer management and weeding. Seedlings do not need large amounts of irrigation; water can be supplied by spraying, and when the seedlings grow 6 true leaves, they can be appropriately watered with a small amount of water. At the same time, the first fertilization can be carried out, and urea can be used as a topdressing. During this period, weeding should be done in a timely manner. Only by doing these aspects well can we ensure that our strawberry seedlings maintain robust growth.

4. Transplanting

After the seedlings have grown for 3-4 months, we can transplant them into pots. However, it is recommended that transplanting into pots be done in July-August each year, and they will bloom and bear fruit the following spring. Consistent with the method mentioned above, when strawberries send out a large number of runners, they should be removed in time. On one hand, this avoids a messy plant shape, and on the other hand, it affects flowering and fruiting.

5. Care

During the care period, the main tasks are managing light, temperature, water and fertilizer. Since strawberries like light, sufficient light conditions should be provided as much as possible; when temperatures are low in autumn and winter, warmth and cold protection measures should be taken in time to avoid the plants being frostbitten; in order to promote fruit set, in addition to keeping up with water and fertilizer, attention should also be paid to weeding and pest elimination, and yellowed and withered leaves should be pruned off in time.
