Cherry Blossom (Rosaceae) Seed Planting Methods, Blooming Period, Value and Flower Language Meaning
Cherry blossom is the collective name for several plants of the genus Prunus in the rose family (Rosaceae). Cherry blossoms originated in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere around the Himalayan region, and they grow all over the world, mainly in Japan. So do you know what the seed planting methods for cherry blossoms are? When do they usually bloom? What value do they have? What do they represent? According to information from the Institute of Botany, we have learned that cherry blossoms generally bloom in April, and the blooming period of cherry blossoms is usually relatively short; a single cherry blossom generally only stays open for about 4 to 10 days.

Cherry Blossom Seed Planting Methods
Soil requirements and improvement measures: Cherry blossoms can grow well in sandy loam and clay loam rich in humus (pH 5.5 to 6.5). In places in the south where the soil is heavy and sticky, it is generally mixed with homemade leaf mold (soil made by composting collected leaves, acidic soil, chicken manure and charcoal powder). Note that before mixing, all existing clay clods must be broken up, otherwise it will not improve the soil. In places where the groundwater level is less than 1 m, use the high-planting method, that is, level the entire planting hole first, then pile soil on top and plant the seedling. For alkaline soil in the north, sulfur powder or ferrous sulfate, etc. needs to be applied to adjust the pH value to about 6.
Apply 2 grams of sulfur powder per sq m, with a validity period of 1 to 2 years, and measure it every year so that the pH value does not exceed 7. Varieties such as mountain cherry and Somei Yoshino have straight trunks and relatively large trees. They are strongly heliophilous tree species and require a wind-sheltered, sunny location with good ventilation and light transmission. When planting in patches, every tree must be able to receive sunlight.
What Value Do Cherry Blossoms Have
Landscaping
Cherry blossoms are bright and brilliant in color and have luxuriant, vigorous branches and leaves. They are an important flowering tree species for early spring and are often used for garden viewing. They can be planted in groups, and can also be planted on hillsides, in courtyards, along roadsides and in front of buildings. At full bloom, the flowers are abundant and gorgeous, filling the trees in splendor, like clouds and rosy clouds, extremely spectacular. They can be planted in large areas to create a “sea of flowers” landscape, or planted in clusters of three to five to dot green spaces and form brocade-like masses, or planted alone to create the pictorial effect of “a single touch of red among a vast expanse of green”. Cherry blossoms can also be used as street trees along paths, as hedges, or made into bonsai.
Medicinal Use
Cherry blossom bark and wood contain gentisic acid 5-glucoside and 5-rhamnose glucoside (Sakurarin), and cherry glycoside; the wood contains d-catechin; the stems and leaves contain quercetin 3-galactoside; the tender leaves contain coumarin, trans-o-hydroxycinnamic acid glucoside and cyanogenic glycosides; the seed kernel contains 32% fatty oil, mainly a-eleostearic acid and sitosterol, used for symptoms such as cough and fever.
Skincare
Cherry blossoms have a very good effect on tightening pores and balancing oil, and are rich in natural vitamins A, B and E. Cherry leaf flavonoids also have medicinal effects in beauty care, strengthening mucous membranes and promoting sugar metabolism. They are a flower of youth that can be used to keep skin young.
Cherry blossoms have the effect of softening skin and brightening skin tone, and are one of the important raw materials for skincare products. Cherry blossoms usually need to be extracted and refined. Experts once used a three-high fresh extraction technology to refine cherry blossoms into cherry pink tender oil. Among cherry blossom extracts, a component called cherry blossom enzyme is often used to remove acne.

What is the flower language of cherry blossoms? The meaning and legends of cherry blossoms
In the distant East, such a story has been passed down: beneath the beautiful cherry trees, there are many souls belonging to those warriors of bushido. Legend says that cherry blossoms were originally only white, and those warriors whose ambitions were unfulfilled chose to end their lives beneath the cherry trees they loved. Their bright red blood slowly seeped into the soil and gradually dyed the cherry blossom petals red. The redder the cherry blossom petals, the more departed souls there were beneath the tree. Therefore, a proverb has spread in Japan: “If you would ask about the Yamato spirit, look at the mountain cherry beneath the morning sun.”
