Water lilies mostly grow in ponds and lakes, and they are also often cultivated in the pools of some parks. Water lilies like sunlight and good ventilation, so tropical and hardy water lilies that bloom during the day close their flowers at night and open again in the morning. Water lilies are mainly propagated by division, and sowing is also possible, only less efficient than division. But some flower lovers insist on growing them from seeds, so how much does a jin of water lily seeds cost? How do you plant them? Is the growing method complicated?

I. How much does a jin of water lily seeds cost?

The market price of water lily seeds is still quite low. About 150 yuan is enough to buy a jin of top-quality water lily seeds, and this price is still within a range most people can accept. Of course, you can compare prices in the market more, as the price of seeds varies between different purchasing channels.

II. How do you plant water lily seeds? Is the growing method complicated?

Water lilies are perennial aquatic plants. Whether grown in pots or ponds, they have a unique charm, and the growing method is not complicated either. Let us take a look below at how to grow water lilies from seed in pots.

1. Adding fertilizer

You can add a little river mud or pond mud to the bottom of the pot, then add an appropriate amount of decomposed chicken manure fertilizer or bone meal. Long-acting granular fertilizer is also fine. Of course, the fertilizer must not directly touch the water lily tubers.

2. Adding soil

Choose suitable soil. Beginners can choose special water lily growing soil. You can also dig up silt, river mud and pond mud yourself, but be sure to sterilize them before use.

3. Planting the water lily

Different varieties of water lily tubers are planted differently, so ask clearly about the variety when buying. Generally, tropical water lilies are planted upright, while most hardy water lily varieties are planted lying flat or at an angle.

The growing tip of the water lily tuber should be placed in the middle of the container. If you bought special water lily soil, it is generally already sterilized, so you can plant directly; if you dug it up yourself, you can sterilize it with high temperature or water it with a fungicide to avoid insects breeding later.

After planting, add soil and see whether transplanting is needed. If it will eventually be transplanted beside a pond, you can fill the container; if it is to be grown in a pot directly, you can choose a larger container, generally more than 40 cm in diameter.

4. Filling with small pebbles

You can add some coarse sand or small pebbles on the soil surface. This can prevent fish from digging up the soil or making the water too cloudy. If you keep small fish in the container, it is still recommended to spread a layer of small pebbles.

After that, place it in a ventilated spot with plenty of sunlight to grow. If you want to grow it in a pond, you can slowly sink the container into the pond until the water level is as high as the top of the container, wait 1-2 minutes, then let it slowly sink to the bottom of the pond, with the leaves floating on the water surface.
