As traditional Chinese medicine gains increasing esteem and Chinese herbal medicines receive growing attention, many regions have taken the cultivation of Chinese herbal medicines as a project to get rich, and honeysuckle, which has a relatively good market, is also one of the chosen projects. But if you really want to grow honeysuckle, then you need to know both the seedling prices and the techniques!

I. Introduction to honeysuckle

1. It is called honeysuckle (jinyinhua) because the flowers are white when they first open and turn yellow after one or two days; it is also called mandarin duck vine because one stem bears two flowers. Of course, it also has other names: Japanese honeysuckle (rendong), Zifengteng, Youzhuanteng, two-colored flower vine, and so on. Honeysuckle is distributed in every province of our country, and Pingyi County in Linyi, Shandong, is currently the main production area with the largest honeysuckle planting area in our country.

2. Honeysuckle is a perennial semi-evergreen shrub; its vine is brown or reddish-brown, its opposite leaves are ovate, and every summer it is covered with yellow and white flowers that set each other off, and the flowers also carry a faint fragrance.

3. Since ancient times, honeysuckle has been praised as a good medicine for clearing heat and detoxifying. Besides being directly steeped in water to drink, it is also used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat conditions such as body heat, rashes, skin spots and sore, swollen throat. In addition, because of its strong creeping and climbing ability, it can also be used for landscaping and horticultural cultivation. And this summer the price of fresh honeysuckle flowers reached as high as 30 yuan/kg, the price of premium dried flowers is around 180 yuan/kg, first-grade flowers are around 170 yuan/kg, and second-grade dried flowers are around 160 yuan/kg, so the current planting prospects for honeysuckle are still quite promising.

II. Honeysuckle seedling prices

For successful honeysuckle planting, seedlings are also an important link. If you want to buy honeysuckle seedlings of good quality and favorable price, you need to understand the current seedling market situation, and you should also choose a nursery company with complete licenses and good qualifications; in addition, you can compare prices at several companies before buying. Below is an introduction to the prices of honeysuckle seedlings of different heights to serve as reference prices for you:

1. Price of honeysuckle seedlings with a height of 20-30CM: 1.5 yuan-2.8 yuan/plant;

2. Price of honeysuckle seedlings with a height of 50-80CM: 2.3-4 yuan/plant;

3. Price of honeysuckle seedlings with a height of 80-100CM: 5-7 yuan/plant.

The above prices are for reference only; the actual purchase price of honeysuckle seedlings should be based on the local market price. And generally, buying in large quantities is much cheaper.

III. Honeysuckle planting techniques

Honeysuckle can be sown and grown from seed around April; each year during the rainy season, cuttings are used for planting, and in spring, seedlings are used for planting. Below is a brief introduction to the planting method for honeysuckle seedlings.

1. Honeysuckle has relatively strong growth adaptability and does not demand much from the soil, but it is best to plant honeysuckle in loose, well-drained sandy loam. Field planting can be done in both spring and autumn. Before field planting, spread base fertilizer in the hole and cover it with a layer of fine soil; after planting, press the covering soil down appropriately and then water.

2. Weed three or four times each year, and also carry out earthing up, which can be done at the same time as weeding. When weeding, take special care not to damage the root system of the honeysuckle.

3. In the two years after planting, apply more human and livestock manure, urea and chemical fertilizer; after two years, in spring, pay attention to applying more cake fertilizer, livestock mixed fertilizer, and so on; after the first harvest of honeysuckle, apply nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer to provide the necessary nutrients for the coming flowers.

4. Honeysuckle also needs proper pruning to increase yield. Dead branches, diseased branches, weak branches, long branches, tall branches, inner branches, dense branches, and so on should be cut away as appropriate; pruning is generally carried out from December each year to February of the following year. For each flush of flowers, prune in June, July and September.

5. During the growth of honeysuckle, pay attention to preventing and controlling diseases and pests such as brown spot disease and aphids. Strengthen the management of honeysuckle and remove diseased and pest-infested branches in time so as not to harm other healthy branches and leaves.
