Origin of the name of Wendeng City

After Qin unified China, writing was standardized, cart axles were made uniform, and the differing cart track widths of the Warring States were unified at a width of 6 chi, with the capital Xianyang as the center, and imperial highways were built throughout the country. The highways "reached Yan and Qi in the east and extended to Wu and Chu in the south," which provided the conditions for Qin Shi Huang's inspection tours.

After the national highways were completed, Qin Shi Huang began his inspection tours. The purpose of his first eastern tour to present-day Chengshan in Weihai City, Shandong Province, was twofold. First: Qi was one of the Seven Warring States and was the last to be destroyed. When Qin Shi Huang first unified the realm, he was wary of Qi, so he followed the example of Yao and Shun in inspecting the people, "to display mighty authority and subdue the realm," and to proclaim himself as having "merits surpassing the Three Sovereigns and virtue reaching the Five Emperors." To show off the strength of the Qin dynasty and the dignity of the emperor, Qin Shi Huang was escorted by six hundred yellow-gate palace attendants, six thousand brave warriors, and sixty thousand elite Qin soldiers to overawe the remnants of Qi. Second: Chengshan Head was the eastern extremity of the Li state and was then called "Qin's Eastern Gate." The Records of the Grand Historian states that Qi had eight gods, and the easternmost was the seventh god, the Sun Lord, sacrificed to at Chengshan. Qin Shi Huang, who believed in the Mandate of Heaven, after performing the Feng and Shan sacrifices at Mount Tai to worship heaven and earth, also wanted to tour the eastern extremity and pay homage to the Sun God.

During the First Emperor's eastern tour in search of the elixir of immortality, many beautiful legends were left among the people. Legend says that one day, Qin Shi Huang arrived in front of Mount Kunyu in Wendeng. At the foot of the mountain lived the Huang brothers and their family. At that time, the two brothers carried out tree bark and leaves with writing on them and placed them on Dragon Stone to dry. It happened that the First Emperor's eastern tour procession arrived there. The two brothers feared the soldiers and ran off carrying the bark and leaves. Qin Shi Huang saw that the peaks here were towering, shrouded in clouds and mist, with ancient trees reaching the sky, like a fairyland, so he got down from his carriage and walked. Seeing no one in the house, but clothes and grain still there, he immediately ordered a search. After the Huang brothers were found, the minister Li Si asked them why they had fled only with bark and leaves and not taken their clothes and grain. The Huang brothers replied: If clothes are gone, they can be woven again; if grain is gone, it can be grown again; but if bark and leaves with poems and writings on them are lost, they cannot be found again. Li Si went to look and indeed saw densely written poems and writings on the bark and leaves. He then asked why they had placed the bark and leaves on the stone. The Huang brothers explained that written bark and leaves feared dampness, and only by drying them on Dragon Stone could they be preserved for a long time. After Qin Shi Huang clarified the reason for the matter, he praised repeatedly: Good writing, good poems and writings. From now on, you brothers shall dry writing here and study knowledge here. From then on, the Huang family, having received imperial sanction, lived here a life of farming and reading at leisure. This place has always been called "Dragon Stone Drying Writing," and the later village and town were called "Shaizi" Village and "Shaizi" Town.

Qin Shi Huang advanced eastward again. One day, he came to a beautiful small mountain and saw the common people below living and working in peace and contentment, a scene of great peace and prosperity. He was extremely pleased, so he summoned local officials and scholars to meet him here. The First Emperor asked their views on "standardizing writing," and everyone praised him enthusiastically. Qin Shi Huang was very happy. From then on, the fine story of "Wenshan Summoning Scholars" and "Scholars Climbing the Mountain" was passed down for a long time. Later generations took the meaning of scholars climbing the mountain and named this mountain Wendeng Mountain. In the fourth year of the Tiantong era of the Northern Qi, when a county was established, it was named Wendeng County. Wendeng Mountain is located one li east of present-day Wendeng City. In the past, a Qin Temple and a Zhaowen Terrace were built there. During the Zhengde era of the Ming dynasty, the Qin Temple was destroyed by lightning fire.

Dongyu Shennong American Ginseng Planting Base

The farm is in Wendeng, located at 37 degrees north latitude, with a suitable climate and temperature. Each year, the production period for American ginseng is more than 2 months longer than in the Northeast, so the time for nutrient growth is relatively longer. From 8 seeds to an annual output of 5,500 tons; from introduction in 1981 to a scale of 50,000 mu in 2016, this made the Wendeng American ginseng industry expand and fission, with output and quality rising to first in China. The total saponin content, the main active ingredient of Wendeng American ginseng, can reach as high as 8.8%, respectively 3.6 and 3.8 percentage points higher than similar imported products and the national standard; the content of another important component, selenium, is 0.08%, 8 times the selenium content of American products.

Today I recommend two things to you that can make your life more nourishing and your body better and better.

The first: American ginseng

Wendeng American ginseng now has a planting area that makes it about the second-largest producing region in the country. In addition to saponins, American ginseng also contains amino acids, polypeptides, polysaccharides, organic acids, fatty oils, volatile oils, vitamins, alkaloids, ketones and flavonoids, sterols and enzymes, lignin, trace elements, and other components. Among them, it contains more than 23 kinds of amino acids, especially some essential amino acids that the human body cannot synthesize, such as lysine, methionine, aspartic acid, phenylalanine, leucine, isoleucine, threonine, and histidine. Eating American ginseng in autumn and winter can replenish qi and blood, raise your immunity, and help avoid disease.

The second: honey

The fructose and glucose in honey can be quickly absorbed and used by the human body, helping people quickly eliminate fatigue and enhancing physical strength and endurance. When taken during fatigue, it can noticeably relieve fatigue symptoms in 15 minutes. Mental workers and people staying up late can drink a cup of honey water while working to feel more energetic. It can also be drunk before and after exercise; it not only puts the body in a better state, but can also relieve fatigue caused by exercise.

At the same time, honey's effect of moistening the intestines and promoting bowel movements is known to everyone. The reason for this effect is that honey can regulate gastric acid secretion, increase intestinal peristalsis, and shorten defecation time. Besides drinking a cup every day for nourishment and comfort, honey can also be used externally. As the sweetest antibacterial and anti-inflammatory medicine, making a honey mask or using it directly can both produce wonderful beauty effects.

Benefits of honey: Eating honey in autumn and winter is both natural health care and delicious. American ginseng plus honey replenishes qi and nourishes the stomach. A cup of American ginseng honey water before bed calms the mind and aids sleep.

If the body is weak, slightly cold and afraid of chill, or for cancer patients, American ginseng powder or American ginseng slices can be steeped in pure honey to make honey-processed ginseng. When needed, take out an appropriate amount each day and mix with water to drink.
