The Persian buttercup has beautiful flowers and is grown in many regions both in China and abroad. Especially in European countries, it is not only grown in large quantities but also used for research, and many new cultivars have been bred from it. It can be used to make bouquets and flower baskets, has a high market demand, and is grown in many major cities. So how should you grow it from seed?

Growth habits:

Persian buttercup prefers cool and semi-shaded environments and dislikes heat. The suitable growing temperature is around 20°C during the day and 7-10°C at night. It fears both wetness and drought, and is best planted in well-drained, fertile, loose neutral or slightly alkaline soil. After June, the tubers enter dormancy. The Persian buttercup likes a mild climate, fresh and humid air, and a loosely shaded growing environment. It is not tolerant of severe cold and freezing, and is even more afraid of midsummer heat and scorching sun. In most regions of China, it enters a dormant state in summer. For pot cultivation, it requires a sandy growing medium rich in humus, loose and fertile, with strong permeability.

Germination time and temperature:

Persian buttercup can be sown in autumn. Generally choose September; in northern regions with lower temperatures, you can choose August.

Persian buttercup seeds should not germinate in climates above 20°C, so you can generally choose late autumn for sowing.

The optimal germination temperature for its seeds is 5°C~15°C. When sowing, pay attention to temperature regulation to give the seeds a good germination temperature.

Seed treatment:

The germination rate of Persian buttercup seeds that have been pre-treated is much higher than that of untreated seeds. So before sowing, it is best to pre-treat the seeds to improve their germination ability.

Specifically, pre-treatment means drying the seeds, evaporating the moisture, and then placing them in a sealed low-temperature environment for a period of time. Low temperature here means -1°C~5°C; it must not be too low, otherwise the seeds will be frost-damaged.

Planting method:

Choose a flower pot of moderate size, and scatter a layer of small stones on the bottom of the pot to increase the moisture retention of the growing medium.

Pour the prepared growing medium into the flower pot and slowly level it with a trowel.

Then scatter the pre-treated seeds onto the soil surface, taking care to spread them evenly and keep the spacing between seeds moderate.

Then cover the seeds with a thin layer of growing medium. At this point, note that the layer of growing medium must not be too thick, otherwise it will only increase the difficulty for the seeds to break through the soil and affect normal germination.

Finally, water the flower pot a little to keep the growing medium moist and give the seeds a suitable germination environment.
