Purple cabbage is a variety of cabbage, named purple cabbage because of its purple color. Purple cabbage is crisp and refreshing, very suitable for eating raw or making salads with other vegetables. It is also very nutritious, containing large amounts of essential vitamins, and is somewhat helpful for people with high blood pressure and diabetes, making it deeply loved by people. Today I will share the growing methods for purple cabbage with fellow vegetable gardeners.

STEP1: Land preparation, fertilizing, and making ridges. The growth cycle of purple cabbage is about 80 days. To ensure it has enough nutrients throughout its entire growth period, sufficient base fertilizer should be applied before sowing, generally well-fermented organic fertilizer is suitable. After applying the fertilizer, deeply turn the soil, then form ridges, with a ridge height of about 20 cm and a ridge width of about 30 cm.

STEP2: Sowing and emergence. The growing method of purple cabbage is somewhat similar to that of Chinese cabbage. The sowing steps are: first draw a small groove about 1 cm deep on top of the prepared ridge, then water the groove, and after the water seeps down, you can scatter the seeds. During this period, crickets and grasshoppers like to eat the young seedlings, so the seeds should be sown appropriately densely. After scattering the seeds, cover them with fine soil about 1 cm thick. After emergence, gradually thin the seedlings to ensure the seedling rate. Full emergence can be achieved within 5 days after sowing.

STEP3: Seedling stage management.During the seedling stage of purple cabbage, pay attention to timely thinning and weeding. When the seedlings are crowded together, thin them promptly, and water frequently during dry weather. The final spacing after thinning should be 25 to 30 cm.

STEP4: Head-forming stage management. When purple cabbage grows to 10 leaves, it gradually enters the head-forming stage, and during this period fertilizer and water management should be strengthened. When watering, add a certain amount of nitrogen fertilizer, but do not apply too much at one time, to avoid the phenomenon of tipburn.

STEP5: Harvest. When the head of the purple cabbage begins to become very firm, it can be harvested. Do not harvest too early, otherwise the taste will be poor when it has not fully developed.
