Heuchera is a new variety of home potted plant introduced only in recent years, so relatively few people know about it. Heuchera belongs to the genus Heuchera in the family Saxifragaceae and is also called coral bells. It is a perennial cold-hardy, shade-tolerant herbaceous flowering plant, very suitable for growing in semi-shaded environments. So how is heuchera grown? And what points should be noted when growing heuchera? Friends who are interested, please follow along with the editor below.

Growing methods for heuchera:

Best propagation time: As long as the high-temperature period at midday in summer is avoided, it can be propagated all year round;

Best growing soil: Fertile, well-drained soil that is neutral to slightly acidic and rich in humus;

Growing humidity requirements: It does not like moisture and prefers a semi-dry, semi-moist environment;

Best growing temperature: It grows well above minus 15 degrees, but stops growing above 30 degrees;

Best growing light: Heuchera is cold-hardy and likes sun while tolerating shade.

Points to note when growing heuchera:

Fertilizer application: Plant it in well-drained soil and add slow-release fertilizer. During the growing period, fertilize appropriately.

Key watering points: Follow the principle of "water when dry, let dry when wet." Water after the soil surface dries. Because it does not like being too moist, watering can be appropriately controlled in summer.

Light and temperature: In summer it grows in semi-shade and avoids direct strong light. In winter, cultivate it in a sunny spot; it is cold-hardy and can grow at temperatures above -15°C.

Key propagation points: Heuchera is mainly grown from seed and by division, and leaf cuttings can also be used. The planting site should face the sun.

Division: Once the mother plant has grown enough to fill the pot, it can be divided. When dividing, pay attention to sterilization and disinfection. It is not strict about soil requirements for planting. If conditions allow, use slightly acidic soil that retains water and drains air. Mix some peat soil with a bit of perlite at about a 4:1 ratio, apply fertilizer regularly, and do not let water accumulate.

Pest and disease control: Because it is a newly introduced variety, it rarely gets sick or develops pests. Just pay more attention normally, and spraying ordinary insecticide or carbendazim is enough.

Heuchera growing experience:

Heuchera is very easy to grow. Whether the light conditions are full sun or partial shade, whether the growing soil is slightly moist or slightly dry, whether humidity is high or low, they can all grow well. Even so, you should still note during cultivation that they prefer semi-shaded, cooler environments and should avoid direct strong afternoon sunlight.
