Garlic has really been a bit expensive these past two years, and the imagined on-year/off-year pattern hasn't appeared either. I was originally hoping garlic would be cheaper this year, but it seems I can't count on that. Garlic is an essential seasoning in every household. We northerners love eating garlic raw, especially in winter with hot dumplings dipped in garlic sauce - truly delicious. Vegetable-growing enthusiasts might as well learn how to grow garlic; it's not hard.

[Garlic Growth Characteristics]

1. Biological characteristics. The growth and development cycle of garlic varies depending on the variety and sowing time. If sown in autumn, it lasts as long as 240-260d. Autumn-sown garlic has two rooting peaks. The first peak occurs during the seedling emergence period after sowing, forming 15-40 new roots; the second rooting peak occurs during the vigorous growth period in spring.

2. Temperature requirements. Garlic likes cool conditions, with a suitable growing temperature of 12-26°C. Seed garlic begins to sprout at 3-5°C, and sprouts rapidly above 12°C.

3. Light requirements. It requires moderate light and cannot tolerate high temperatures or strong light, but during the bulb enlargement stage it must have long-day conditions.

4. Water requirements. During the seedling stage, water should be controlled appropriately; during the vigorous growth stage and bulb enlargement stage, the soil should be kept moist.

5. Soil requirements. It is not strict about soil, but well-drained, fertile sandy loam is best. The soil should be slightly acidic; saline-alkaline soil is certainly unsuitable.

[Garlic Planting Steps]

1. Prepare the potting soil, apply plenty of organic fertilizer, and keep the soil moist.

2. Break the garlic bulb into individual cloves, press the cloves into the potting soil so that the tips of the cloves just emerge from the soil, firm the soil around the cloves, and then water thoroughly.

3. Place the pot in a warm, bright place, and the cloves will sprout after 7-10 days. Note that if you want the bulbs to grow large, a small pot 15cm in diameter can only hold one plant; if there are more, they need to be transplanted.

4. Carry out routine management according to the growth characteristics of garlic. Garlic planted in autumn can be harvested after overwintering, and the green little garlic sprouts can accompany you through the whole winter.

Growing garlic isn't that hard, is it? I think for vegetable lovers, nothing is impossible - only unimaginable. Let's cheer each other on and grow vegetables well.
