A Detailed Guide to Taxus Planting Methods and Daily Care Tips
Repotting: Generally, when a newly bought Taxus arrives, fill the bottom of the flowerpot with an appropriate amount of soil, tear off the plastic wrap on the root ball, place it in the pot and fill soil around it, then be sure to press it firm. If you have rooting powder, mix the rooting powder with water, then water thoroughly; after that, there is no need to use rooting powder again.

Taxus requires watering thoroughly once the potting soil has dried out completely. It likes moisture but cannot tolerate waterlogging, so when the surface of the potting soil is dry, water it thoroughly again. After a newly planted Taxus has been watered thoroughly, do not water again until the soil is dry; ordinarily you can spray a little water on the leaves, and the bottom of the pot must have drainage holes. Be sure never to let water accumulate, otherwise it will easily start dropping leaves from the roots until it is completely bare. Generally, water again when the soil surface turns pale; if the leaves look slightly curled, you can spray a little water on the foliage. Place a newly planted Taxus indoors first, and after about 20 days it can be placed outside.

When Taxus puts out new leaves, you can cut off the top of the tree; this way it will send out new branches and new leaves from the inside, making it look more lush and giving it a shape. If you want it to fruit earlier, then do not prune, otherwise all the nutrients will be supplied to growing new branches. Taxus has male and female plants; the male tree pollinates and the female tree bears fruit.

Taxus is tolerant of shade, cold and poor soil, enduring low temperatures of minus 15 to 20 degrees, and it can still grow slowly at a high temperature of 40 degrees. Taxus is best planted in ordinary soil; there is no need to use nutrient soil. It can also grow very well indoors for a long time, and of course appropriate sunlight is also good; just never expose it to strong sun! Normally no fertilizing is needed, but if you want to fertilize, just put a few granules of compound fertilizer on the soil surface.

One thing for friends in the north to note: if there is heating or air conditioning indoors, because the temperature is very high and the air is very dry at the same time, you must ensure adequate moisture. In such an environment, Taxus needs more water than in summer, and you should frequently spray water on the leaves to prevent the leaves from being dried out by the heating, otherwise it can easily dry out and die.
