How to grow succulents hydroponically? Green Field Lesson teaches you the planting method

Succulents can also be grown hydroponically, and compared with soil cultivation they have many advantages, but these advantages are time-limited and do not last long, because hydroponics cannot provide the succulents with the nutrients they need to survive well over the long term. After all, they are plants, and soil is ultimately the most reliable growing medium. Below, the editor introduces the hydroponic method.
Advantages of hydroponics:
1. Compared with soil cultivation, it is cleaner and less prone to pests;
2. In the early stage, hydroponically grown succulents are clearly more conducive to rooting than soil-grown ones;
3. For succulents in poor condition, hydroponics is better suited for restoring their condition and promoting growth.

Since hydroponics cannot provide succulents with sufficient nutrients over the long term, but in the early stage it can promote root growth in succulents, it is recommended that when you receive a succulent in poor condition, you can choose the hydroponic method for care. However, the hydroponic period should be kept to around 2 months; once the succulent's condition has recovered and root growth is on track, it can be switched to soil cultivation. This is because in the later stage the nutrients cannot keep up, and the growth of hydroponic succulents will be clearly at a disadvantage compared with soil-grown ones.

Hydroponic method:
1. Prepare a glass container suitable for the size of the succulent; you can buy a professional hydroponic container, or use something from daily life, such as a glass milk bottle, a glass cup, and so on;
2. According to the size of the succulent's root system, pour in clean water to a suitable water level;
3. Get the water level and the position of the roots right, and place the succulent;
PS: For Haworthia cooperi, Haworthia obtusa and similar types with very well-developed root systems, the roots can be fully submerged in water; for Crassulaceae Echeveria and similar types, the root system is not extensive and the water requirement is also low, so keeping it so the roots just barely touch the water is enough.

The daily care of hydroponic succulents is also fairly simple; you no longer have to worry about when to water or whether you can water. Just place them in a suitable spot according to the succulent's growth habits and let them bask in the sun as normal! But when growing hydroponically in summer, you also need to pay attention to cooling and shading.

For hydroponic succulents, leave a little gap between the roots and the water level; the roots can sense the presence of water on their own, which stimulates the roots to grow downward to absorb water, and under the sunlight the water will evaporate, achieving an indirect watering effect. Although soil cultivation has some drawbacks, it can deliver nutrients to succulents over the long term, and this alone is enough for us to choose soil cultivation as a long-term growing method. Some people say that rooting powder and nutrient solution can be added to hydroponics, but compared with soil cultivation, these added nutrients are far less reliable than soil cultivation (you can imagine the difference between breast milk and formula milk, it is about the same!).
Having read this far, the editor wants to say that a combined soil-and-water growing method can both increase the fun of growing succulents and, to a certain extent, ease the situation of succulents in poor condition. So the editor suggests that before deciding to use the hydroponic method, first try it out with an individual succulent, and once you have mastered this skill proficiently, then spread it across your own succulent kingdom.
