There is a kind of rice that can be planted once and harvested for many years; it is a ratooning rice that regrows year after year, just like the chives we usually grow, which are cut and then the roots left behind so they can be harvested again the next year.

This rice needs a very wide row spacing when planted. It is a new variety developed through crossbreeding, with a yield of more than 1000 jin per mu. Its grains are relatively small, oval-shaped and white, and its taste is like that of Northeast China rice.

"Lazy rice" can not only grow for many years, but more importantly, it has high nutritional value, with a protein content of 8.7%, while ordinary rice is less than 8%; its milling yield is 72%, higher than the average milling yield of ordinary paddy rice of 67%. However, its market price is also about 3 yuan per jin.

However, at present, "lazy rice" is only being trial-planted in a few areas and has not yet become widespread. Just thinking about it is exciting: in the future, farmers will not need to sow seeds and transplant seedlings every year when planting it, saving a lot of labor.
