The tomatoes grown by a young man surnamed Huang in the village often suffered from flowerfruit drop, and he did not understand what was causing it, so later he went to find the village's skilled grower, Uncle Zhang. The uncle had been growing vegetables for quite a few years and had rich growing experience. The uncle told the young man that when tomatoes are cultivated in early spring and in the scorching summer season, flower and fruit drop often occurs, affecting early maturity and yield. There are mainly two causes of flower and fruit drop in tomatoes:

First, it is caused by unsuitable external climate conditions, such as temperature being too high or too low, air humidity being too high or too low, cloudy and rainy days, and insufficient light, all of which can cause flower and fruit drop. Second, it is caused by improper cultivation management, such as seedlings being too large at transplanting time, severe transplanting damage, soil alternating between dry and wet, uneven watering, formation of an abscission layer at the flower stalk, water imbalance in the flowers, and insufficient water and fertilizer, all of which can cause malnutrition and lead to flower drop.

The following two measures can be taken to prevent flower and fruit drop in tomatoes: First, adopt comprehensive agricultural prevention measures, such as cultivating strong seedlings before planting, transplanting at the right time, timely pruning and removal of side shoots, avoiding low temperatures, and preventing excessive vegetative growth of the plants. Timely topdressing and watering should be carried out, and pests and diseases should be controlled. Second, use plant growth regulators, commonly including Tomatotone. The concentration for applying Tomatotone is 25-50 mg/kg, generally sprayed on the floral organs during the flowering period, usually 2-3 times per flower cluster. After hearing what the uncle said, the young man surnamed Huang finally understood that these were the causes, and the next time he planted he would have to pay attention to these points in order to achieve high yield.
