Detailed Guide to Growing Strawberry Corn in Pots
Strawberry corn is a mini type of corn, a variant of common corn, with high ornamental and edible value. Because of its purple-red color and its shape similar to that of a strawberry, it is also called strawberry corn. Below, let us learn about how to grow strawberry corn in pots.
First, you need to understand the growing habits of strawberry corn. The suitable growing temperature for strawberry corn is between 20-26 degrees, and it can be sown in both spring and summer. The plant grows about 1 m tall, and it bears fruit three months after planting. Now that we understand these habits, let us start planting.
First, prepare the seedling substrate. Since strawberry corn grows about 1 m tall and has a growth cycle of about 3 months, when mixing the substrate you should add a bit more castor bean cake organic fertilizer or fermented organic fertilizer and mix it evenly with peat soil.
Then choose a round flower pot with a diameter of about 25 cm and a height of more than 20, with a breathable bottom. Put the prepared substrate into the round flower pot, water it thoroughly, and set it aside for later use.
Next, transplant the strawberry corn seedlings into the round flower pot. Strawberry corn seedlings emerge in 8-10 days, so you need to raise the seedlings about 10 days before preparing to transplant them into pots, using a 50-cell seedling tray. Transplant the strawberry corn into the middle position of the flower pot. After transplanting, place the flower pots in a greenhouse and keep the spacing between pots at 40 cm.
When strawberry corn has grown for about 3 months and the kernels are plump, it can be harvested.
