Growing Mini Cucumbers in Pots: This One Article Is All You Need
The mini cucumber is a type of cucumber that is close to oval in shape. Its flavor is the best among cucumbers, and it grows to about the size of a duck egg, making it very suitable for growing in pots.
To grow mini cucumbers in pots, you first need to sprout the seeds, then place the sprouted seeds into a seedling tray and water them thoroughly. After about 20 days, they can be transplanted. During this process, you only need to ensure a suitable temperature, keeping it between 20-30°C.
Next is preparing the flower pot. When transplanting into the pot, you need to choose a suitable flower pot. Since cucumbers are indeterminate growers, to ensure a continuous supply of nutrients, it is best to use a pot with a diameter of over 30 and a height of over 25 cm. Then put 3-4 cm of fermented cow manure at the bottom of the pot, and cover it with peat soil. Fill it to a level 2 cm lower than the height of the pot. This makes watering easier.
After filling the pot, water it thoroughly right away, then let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Once the excess water in the pot has drained out, you can transplant into the pot. Plant the cucumber seedling in the middle of the pot, burying it to a depth about 0.5 cm deeper than the substrate level in the seedling tray. Then what you need to do is set up a small bamboo stake to make it easy for the mini cucumber to climb and spread its vines.
When the mini cucumber has grown to about 50 cm, you can start keeping cucumbers. Below 50 cm, whether it is fruit or side shoots, all must be removed. When removing side shoots, it is best to do it on a sunny afternoon, which helps the wounds heal and reduces death of the plant caused by bacterial infection.
Above 50 cm, you can start keeping cucumbers. Since cucumbers have a very strong ability to set fruit continuously, with almost one cucumber per leaf, to make fruit setting easier, you can pollinate the flowers by dipping when the pistils of the mini cucumber bloom, promoting the growth of the mini cucumbers.
