A detailed guide to cherry cultivation: growing good cherries in a school vegetable garden
Cherry (scientific name: Cerasuspseudocerasus), a tree, 2-6 m tall, with grayish-white bark. The fruit can be eaten as a fruit, and the fruit is rich in sugar, protein, vitamins, and various elements such as calcium, iron, phosphorus, and potassium. The main production areas in China include Shandong, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Henan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Sichuan, and others.
Cultivation methods
1. Seedling preparation
Cherries are a cross-pollinated fruit tree. During container cultivation, attention should be paid to variety pairing, and it is advisable to graft 2-3 varieties per pot. For potting cherries, choose cherry varieties with large fruit, bright color, and strong continuous fruiting ability.
2. Sowing
The container should match the size of the cherry seedling. Place a piece of tile upside down over the drainage hole, then spread a layer of about 20 cm of furnace ash and slag, add nutrient soil, and finally place the sapling. After lifting the seedling and pressing the soil 2-3 times, the final soil surface should be about 5 cm from the rim of the container.
3. Pruning the plant
Cherry leaves need pruning for better growth. It is best to prune in summer. Everyone should remember to pay attention to the position of flower buds when pruning. Cut off competing branches and water sprout branches on the upper side. When the branches grow to 15-20 cm, pinch off the growing tips. This is generally done before July.
4. Thinning flowers and fruit
When there are a large number of flower buds, some flower buds should be appropriately thinned. When fruiting, promptly thin out poorly developed fruit so that good fruit can continue to grow.
Watering
In summer, water once a day. If the temperature is high, spray some water on the leaves frequently. In spring and autumn, watering should be reduced.
Temperature
It can grow well and bear fruit normally in places with an average annual temperature of 10-12°C and an extreme minimum winter temperature not lower than -20°C.
Light
Cherry seedlings are fruit trees with a strong preference for light. Cherry seedlings require an annual sunshine duration of 2 600-2 800 hours.
Soil
The cherry root system has vigorous respiration and a high oxygen consumption. The soil should have high permeability, with loose-textured, deep sandy loam being best. The nutrient soil ratio is turf soil: barnyard manure: sand = 5:3:2. Moisture
Cultivation time
The best time to pot cherry trees is generally in early spring.
Fertilizer
Apply fertilizer once a month to meet the nutritional growth needs of cherries. When fertilizing, choose organic fertilizers such as decomposed rapeseed cake water and rice washing water.
Cultivation container
For the container for potted cherries, choose round pots with good air permeability, with a diameter of 30-40 cm. Generally speaking, for pots for growing cherries, it is best to choose containers such as fired pots and wooden barrels.
Nutritional value
1. Cherries have a particularly high iron content.
2. Cherries are rich in nutrients and help regulate the middle, boost qi, strengthen the spleen and stomach, and dispel wind-dampness.
3. They are beneficial for poor appetite, indigestion, rheumatic body pain, and other conditions.
4. Regular consumption of cherries can nourish the face and preserve appearance, make the skin rosy, tender, and fair, and reduce wrinkles and spots.
Suitable population
Generally, all people can eat them.
1. Suitable for people with indigestion, paralysis, rheumatic waist and leg pain, weak constitution, and dull complexion.
2. People with ulcer symptoms or internal heat should eat them cautiously; people with diabetes should avoid eating them.
3. Hydrocyanic acid in wild cherries exists in large amounts in the seeds and fruit. (Therefore, such fruits should not be eaten in large quantities.)
4. People with febrile diseases, deficiency-heat cough, or constipation should avoid eating them, and people with renal insufficiency or oliguria should eat them cautiously.
First harvest cherry picking
As the saying goes, "Cherries are delicious, but the tree is hard to grow."
