As the saying goes, "Food is the first necessity of the people." With the development of agriculture, pesticides are widely used. Without spraying pesticides, pests and diseases cannot be controlled, while the various diseases caused by pesticide residues are also becoming increasingly serious, posing an unprecedented threat to human health.

Research shows that long-term consumption of fruits and vegetables with pesticide residues causes a certain amount of pesticides to accumulate in the body and be unable to be excreted. They circulate through the bloodstream to all parts of the body, leading to disease outbreaks!

So do you know what harms pesticide residues in the body can cause? In fact, they can be divided into three types:Acute poisoning, chronic poisoning, and the "three-cause" harms

1、 Acute poisoning

After the body suddenly takes in an excessive amount of pesticides, it causes an acute poisoning reaction, and acute poisoning often causes a large number of casualties. It is the most obvious, most common, and most lethal pesticide hazard.

2、 Chronic poisoning

Long-term contact with or consumption of food containing pesticide residues causes the residual pesticides to continuously accumulate in the body, creating a potential threat to health. Although it will not cause obvious symptoms of poisoning in a short time, it will gradually produce chronic harm, such as: disrupting the normal function of the body's nervous system, causing immune deficiencies in infants, affecting male fertility, and so on. Although the chronic harm of pesticides cannot directly endanger human life, it can reduce human immunity, thereby affecting human health and causing an increase in the morbidity and mortality rates of other diseases.

3、 The "three-cause" harms (carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic)

In fact, the harm of pesticide residues is not only poisoning. What is even more worrying is the "three-cause" effect, namelycarcinogenic、teratogenic and mutagenic. Research shows that more than 85% of cancers are related to pesticide residues; relevant epidemiological surveys show that the incidence of malignant tumors is rising year by year, and this is not unrelated to pesticide residues in vegetables. As a toxic substance, pesticide residues have enough power to alter genetic genes and cause fetal malformations. This power is far greater than the harm of tobacco and alcohol.

So,how can we avoid ingesting pesticide residues?

The most thorough way to avoid human intake of pesticide residues is, of course, to control the source, reduce the use of pesticides, or use pesticides within a safe range. However, this is also the most difficult. For ordinary people like us, the most effective way is to reduce "disease entering through the mouth," that is, to reduce the intake of pesticide residues. Anything that goes into the mouth must be cleaned thoroughly.

Below are some washing methods for removing pesticide residues from fruits and vegetables:

For those that can be peeled, such as white radish, winter melon, pumpkin, and luffa, it is best to wash the surface first and then peel off the skin;

For those that are not peeled but have a somewhat smooth surface (such as apples, which are not recommended to be eaten peeled), you can scrub them with a toothbrush and then wash them with warm water;

If the surface is difficult to wash, you can apply some salt or even flour to clean it (such as grapes);

For all fruits and vegetables, it is best to soak them for a while first and add a little salt;

For leafy vegetables such as cabbage, you can remove the outer leaves, and the inner leaves can be simply rinsed.
