What are the common problems in forage grass cultivation?
Hebei, I have three mu of land. Which kind of forage grass is suitable to plant? Can it feed 30 goats?
The 30 sheep also don't need corn stalks, peanut vines, sweet potato vines, soybean stalks, and the like. If you plant grass, and there is some locally, then when the harvest season comes, a few days of hard work will be enough to gather it.
If you plant corn stalks, cut them while they are still green, haul them home, crush and ferment them, then even if 3 mu is not enough, you can haul some from nearby and it will be about enough. If the corn stalks are dry, one mu yields just over 600 jin, enough for one adult sheep to eat for a year. Growing grass to raise sheep is unrealistic unless you have a lot of cheap land or mountainous land.
My land here in Henan is not mountainous. I have planted ryegrass, about 3 mu or so, and it can be cut three times. It cannot be sun-dried; once dried it is gone. The yield is enough for 30 sheep to eat for 4 months, that is enough, but you have to know that once it grows, if you do not harvest it, no new growth will come out, and that grass is high in moisture and does not have much nutrition. The sheep eat a lot but just do not put on fat.
