The Complete Guide to Strawberry Planting Methods: How to Grow Strawberries Well

Strawberry (scientific name: Fragaria × ananassa Duch.), native to South America, widely cultivated throughout China. Strawberry is a perennial herb, 10-40 cm tall. The leaves are obovate or diamond-shaped, and the flowers are white. The fruit is red.
Planting Methods
1. Seedling Preparation
Choose seedlings with glossy leaves and a thick crown (the swollen part at the base of the leaves). Strawberry seedlings are prone to viral infections, so choosing virus-free strawberry seedlings is a safer bet.
2. Planting
Place soil in a container, dig holes with a plant spacing of 25 cm. Hold the lower part of the strawberry seedling with your hand, take it out of the small pot, place it in the hole, cover with soil so that it slightly covers the crown, press gently with your hand, and water.
3. Pruning the Plant
During cultivation, yellowing old leaves should be removed directly; strawberries produce runners during growth, and when they flower and bear fruit, remove the runners. Small plantlets will grow on the runners and can be cut off and planted directly.
4. Mulching
When the first fruits appear, you can spread straw or a layer of aluminum foil at the base to prevent the fruit from touching the soil and rotting.
5. Harvesting
Harvest one month after flowering. When the fruits turn red, cut them off one by one from the top of the calyx with scissors.
Temperature
The suitable temperature for strawberry plant growth is 15-30°C, for root growth is 15-20°C, and for the flowering and fruiting period is 15-20°C.
Light
Strawberries need to be planted in a sunny, warm environment.
Soil
Strawberries are fertilizer-loving plants. When preparing nutrient soil, apply sufficient organic fertilizer and use as little chemical fertilizer as possible.
Water
After planting, water strawberries frequently with small amounts of water to keep the soil in the pot moist, neither too dry nor too wet. After watering, open windows appropriately for ventilation to reduce humidity.
Cultivation Time
Potted strawberries can be planted all year round, and the survival rate is highest when transplanted in September to October.
Fertilizer
For potted strawberries, organic fertilizer is preferred. You can soak soybean cake in water and use it for watering, once every 7 days.
Growing Container
Flower pots of various sizes, old wooden boxes, etc.
Harvest Period
Harvest one month after flowering; the fruits can be harvested once they turn red.
Nutritional Value
Strawberries are rich in nutritional value and are known as the "Queen of Fruits." They contain abundant nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin PP, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, carotene, tannic acid, aspartic acid, copper, strawberry amine, pectin, cellulose, folic acid, iron, calcium, ellagic acid, and anthocyanins.
Precautions
1. Watering should be done in the morning or evening.
