As the saying goes, "food is the first necessity of the people." With the development of agriculture, pesticides are widely used; without spraying pesticides, pests and diseases cannot be controlled, and the various diseases caused by pesticide residue are also becoming increasingly serious, threatening human health as never before.

Research shows that when people eat fruits and vegetables with pesticide residue over the long term, a certain amount of pesticides accumulates in the body and cannot be excreted, traveling through the bloodstream to every part of the body and triggering the outbreak of disease!

So do you know what harm pesticide residue in the body can cause? It can actually be divided into three kinds:Acute poisoning, chronic poisoning and the "three-cause" harms

1、 Acute poisoning

When the body suddenly takes in an excessive amount of pesticides, it causes an acute poisoning reaction, and acute poisoning often causes heavy casualties; it is the most obvious, most common and most lethal form of pesticide harm.

2、 Chronic poisoning

Long-term contact with or consumption of food containing pesticide residue causes the residual pesticides to build up continuously in the body, creating a potential threat to health. Although it will not cause obvious symptoms of poisoning in a short time, it gradually produces chronic damage, for example: it disrupts the normal function of the body's nervous system, causes immune deficiency in infants, affects male fertility, and so on. Although the chronic harm of pesticides cannot directly endanger human life, it can lower the body's immunity, thereby affecting human health and causing the incidence and mortality of other diseases to rise.

3、 The "three-cause" harms (carcinogenic, teratogenic, mutagenic)

In fact, the harm of pesticide residue is not only poisoning; what is even more worrying is the "three-cause" effect, namelycarcinogenic、teratogenic and mutagenic. Research shows that more than 85% of cancers are related to pesticide residue; relevant epidemiological surveys show that the incidence of malignant tumors is rising year by year, and this is not unrelated to pesticide residue in vegetables. As a toxic substance, pesticide residue has the power to alter genetic genes and cause fetal deformities, a power far greater than the harm of tobacco and alcohol.

So,how can we avoid taking in pesticide residue?

The most thorough way to avoid human intake of pesticide residue is of course to control the source, reducing the use of pesticides or using pesticides within a safe range, but this is also the most difficult. For ordinary people like us, the most effective approach is simply to reduce "disease entering through the mouth," that is, to reduce the intake of pesticide residue, and to wash thoroughly anything that goes into the mouth.

Below are some washing methods for removing pesticide residue from fruits and vegetables:

For those that can be peeled, such as white radish, winter melon, pumpkin and loofah, it is best to wash the surface first and then peel off the skin;

For those that are not peeled but have a slightly smooth surface (such as apples, which are not recommended to be eaten peeled), you can scrub them with a toothbrush and then wash them with warm water;

If the surface is hard to wash, you can apply some salt or even flour to clean it (for example, grapes);

For all fruits and vegetables, it is best to soak them for a while first, adding a little salt along the way;

For leafy wrapped vegetables such as cabbage, you can remove the outer leaves, and the inner leaves can simply be rinsed.
