1. So-called genetically modified crops are created by using biotechnology to transfer the genes of certain organisms into other species, modifying the organism's genetic material so that its traits, nutritional quality, consumption quality and other aspects are changed toward goals desired by humans. In China, genetically modified organisms are still relatively rare. So far, only 6 genetically modified crops have been approved for commercialization by the Bioengineering Safety Committee of the Ministry of Agriculture, of which 3 involve crops, namely two kinds of tomatoes and one kind of sweet pepper. 2. 2. Recently, news has spread frequently from various parts of the country that soybeans and soybean meal are rising across the board. Relevant analysts say that in the near term, domestic spot soybean prices will still show a steadily upward trend, for the following reasons.

Domestic soybean inventories are declining. China's main soybean-producing area is Heilongjiang Province, and the province's soybean inventory directly affects domestic soybean prices. At the end of January, Heilongjiang Province's soybean inventory was 3.37 million tons. By the end of February, the inventory of new soybeans from 2001 was 2.7 million tons, a decrease of 670,000 tons. After deducting food use, consumption, oil pressing within the province, and so on, Heilongjiang Province could supply less than 1 million tons of soybeans to oil mills in other provinces, and port inventories were less than 1 million tons. Therefore, domestically available soybeans for oil mills to crush were insufficient, and inventories decreased.

Imported soybeans have hit a gap in supply. According to relevant import data, China's shipments of imported soybeans from the United States had stopped by the end of February. Regardless of whether the approval time for genetically modified safety certificates is shortened, port arrivals of imported soybeans will be cut off for more than 1 month. According to China's inspection regulations for imported goods, it takes more than 15 days for imported soybeans to go from port arrival to pickup. Therefore, newly imported soybeans could be put into use by oil processing enterprises at the earliest in mid-May.
