Key Points and Methods of Fertilization Techniques for Summer Sesame
To achieve higher yields of summer sesame, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium fertilizers need to be applied skillfully at the right time. When fertilizing, attention should be paid to mastering the principles of one steady, two precise, and three heavy.
One steady means fertilization at the seedling stage should be steady. Summer sesame grows slowly at the seedling stage, and the root's ability to absorb nutrients is weak. If the base fertilizer is insufficient, it will cause the seedlings to be thin and weak. The seedling-promoting fertilizer should be topdressed as early as possible, but the amount of fertilizer used should be small, otherwise it is very easy to cause leggy seedlings.
Two precise means topdressing at the bud stage should be precise. From the bud stage to the early flowering stage of summer sesame, the growth rate noticeably accelerates. If topdressing is timely at this time, it can promote flower bud differentiation and increase the number of capsules set.
Three heavy means topdressing at the flowering stage should be heavy. From the full flowering stage to the maturity stage of summer sesame, it blooms, sets capsules, and matures simultaneously, and the demand for fertilizer increases sharply. Topdressing at this stage can not only reduce yellow tips and shriveled grains of summer sesame, but also increase the thousand-grain weight. Generally, topdressing at the full flowering stage should be early and applied in two installments: 10 days after early flowering, 2-3 kg of pure nitrogen should be topdressed per mu, and 10 days after capsule setting, 3-5 kg of pure nitrogen should be topdressed per mu. In order to meet the large demand for phosphorus and potassium fertilizers at the full flowering stage, 2 kg of phosphorus fertilizer and 1 kg of potassium fertilizer can be used per mu, mixed with 50 kg of water, and the clear liquid can be sprayed, with obvious yield-increasing effects.
