Hybrid Sesame New Combination Wanzazhi 0176 Variety Profile

The hybrid sesame variety Wanzazhi 0176 has recently passed the approval of the Anhui Province Non-Major Crop Evaluation Committee.

Characteristics: upright and elegant plant type, single-stem type, thick and lodging-resistant stems, general plant height around 160 cm, low position of the first capsule. Green leaves, white flowers, three capsules per leaf, four-angled capsules, relatively dense capsule setting; under better cultivation conditions, some individual plants develop a few branches and 4-6 flowers per leaf, with 80-90 capsules per plant. 65-70 seeds per capsule, 1000-seed weight around 3.3 g, white seed coat. Relatively resistant to Fusarium wilt and Phoma stem blight. At maturity, the lower capsules do not shatter; the whole growth period for summer sowing is about 90 days, suitable for planting in Anhui and other areas.

Yield performance: outstanding heterosis, strong lodging resistance and stress resistance, high yields in hybrid seed production and F1. In the 2004 variety comparison trials at Hefei and Guzhen sites, the yields per mu reached 143.6 kg and 132.2 kg respectively, significantly higher than the control. In 2005, it participated in the first round of the Anhui Province sesame regional trial identification, with a province-wide average yield of 98.47 kg per mu, ranking 1st among the 10 tested varieties. Through nearly two years of yield identification and demonstration, its overall performance is high yield, good quality, relatively strong resistance, and comprehensive traits superior to the main domestic cultivars.
