A Comprehensive Guide to Scientific Control Methods for Soybean Aphids

Growing Techniques 0 views
Soybean aphids are commonly known as "ni chong" (greasy bugs) or "mi chong" (honey bugs). They mostly gather on the growing points, top leaves and backs of young tender leaves of soybean plants, piercing and sucking sap to cause damage. This results in leaf curling, plant stunting and reduced yield, and they can also transmit viral diseases, causing yield loss and quality decline. This pest begins to appear in soybean fields in mid-to-late June, and causes severe damage during hot, dry weather. Soybean aphids have a very strong reproductive capacity; a single female can produce 50-60 offspring, and under suitable conditions, young aphids can give birth after about 4-5 days, and can reproduce 15

Soybean aphids have a very strong reproductive capacity; a single female can produce 50-60 offspring, and under suitable conditions, young aphids can give birth after about 4-5 days, and can reproduce 15 generations per year on soybean.

Soybean aphids have 4 peak migration and dispersal periods throughout the year: the 1st is during the soybean seedling stage, the 2nd appears in early June, the 3rd appears in mid-July, and the 4th is in early September. Generally, control should be carried out in early July, which is the most suitable time.

Control methods: Chemical control is the main approach, using 40% dimethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 800 times dilution, or 40% omethoate emulsifiable concentrate at 1000 times dilution. 10% deltamethrin emulsifiable concentrate at 15-20 milliliters per 667 sq m, 50% pirimicarb wettable powder at 10 grams per 667 sq m, mixed with 40-50 kg of water for spraying.
