Detailed Introduction to the Soybean Variety Tiefeng 29
The new soybean variety Tiefeng 29 was developed by the Tieling Institute of Soybean Science in Liaoning Province in 1987 through sexual hybridization, using Tie 8114-7-4 as the female parent, which had good yield performance, a yield of 56.1 g per plant, many branches, dense pods, large and uniform seeds, and a 100-seed weight of 25.4 g, and Tie 84059-13-8 as the male parent, which had ordinary traits but was lodging-resistant, and was developed through many years of selection and breeding. Its original line number was Tie 87107-6, and it passed examination and approval by the Liaoning Provincial Variety Approval Committee in November 1997.
Characteristics and traits: this variety has a determinate podding habit, purple flowers, gray pubescence, and elliptical leaves; the leaves are dark green and thick. The average plant height is 69 cm, with 3 branches, 64.2 pods per plant, and a complete-seed rate of 93.2%, with no purple blotch and no brown blotch. The 100-seed weight is 23.5-25 g. It is resistant to mosaic virus and rarely infected by downy mildew and other leaf diseases during the growth period. The growth period is 130-133 d.
This variety participated in the Liaoning Provincial Regional Trial from 1993 to 1994. After two years of trials at 8 locations and 14 location-times, all trial sites showed increased yield, with an average yield of 183.2 kg per mu, an average increase of 15.2% over the control varieties (Tiefeng 24, Liaodou 10, and Kaiyu 10), ranking first among the tested materials. From 1994 to 1995, it participated in the Liaoning Provincial Production Trial. After trials at 10 locations and 15 location-times across the province, the average yield was 183.5 kg per mu, an average increase of 23.3% over the controls (Tiefeng 24, Tiefeng 27, Liaodou 10, and Dandou 5). From 1995 to 1996, larger-area demonstrations generally received good feedback. For example, 201 mu were planted in Baijiagou Town, Faku County, with an average yield of 213.7 kg per mu, and 170 mu were planted in Laoguantuo Township, Liaozhong County, with an average yield of 205.5 kg per mu. Small-area high-yield fields: for example, 4 mu were planted in Lianshan District, Huludao City, with an average yield of 272 kg per mu, and 5 mu were planted in Pingdingbao Town, Tieling County, with an average yield of 256.7 kg per mu. In 1998, 600,000 mu were promoted, and in 1999, 900,000 mu were promoted. After 2000, more than 1 million mu could be promoted and planted each year, accounting for more than 1/3 of the province's planting area. Tiefeng 29 soybean has a high protein content. According to three years of testing by the Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the protein content is 45.02%, the fat content is 19.11%, totaling 64.13%. It reached the national quality breeding research target and is at the advanced domestic level.

Region and technology: suitable for planting in soil with medium or above-medium fertility. Hole sowing is preferable, with two plants per hole, and 7,000-10,000 plants retained per mu. Fertile land should be thinner and poor land denser. During the growth period, strengthen hoeing and ridging, and control pests in time. In recent years, the introduction of this variety for vegetable soybean in Jiangsu, Sichuan, and other places has produced very considerable benefits.
