II. Origin and Type

Originally named "Tongsu 526", it is a spring-sown, medium-maturing fresh-eating (vegetable) soybean variety, systematically bred by the Jiangsu Yanjiang Area Institute of Agricultural Sciences from the Japanese early-maturing edamame, and developed in 2002.

III. Adaptation Scope

Suitable for spring edamame cultivation in Jiangsu Province.

IV. Yield Level and Characteristics

In 2003-2004, it participated in the Jiangsu Province fresh edamame regional trial. The two-year average fresh pod yield was 548.3 kg per mu, comparable to the control; the average fresh seed yield was 306.3 kg per mu, a 10.0% increase over the control. In 2005, it participated in the fresh soybean production trial. The average fresh pod yield was 718.3 kg per mu, comparable to the control, and the average fresh seed yield was 422.4 kg per mu, an 11.8% increase over the control. The period from sowing to harvest is 91 days, plant height is 30.6 cm, main stem has 9.2 nodes, pod-setting height is 9.2 cm, branching number is 1.9, pods per plant are 21.0, the percentage of multi-seeded pods is 69.5%, 100-seed fresh weight is 58.0 g, and shelling rate is 58.8%.

Strong emergence vigor, young stem is green. Leaves are ovate, leaf color is light green. White flowers, fresh pods have sparse pubescence, light brown, pods are bright green. Determinate pod-setting habit, plant type is relatively compact. When cooked and tasted, the beans have a sweet flavor and medium glutinosity. Dry seeds have a green seed coat and yellow cotyledons. Field occurrence of mosaic virus disease is relatively mild, and lodging resistance is strong. Inoculation identification shows high susceptibility to mosaic virus disease, with resistance comparable to the control.

V. Key Cultivation Techniques

1. Crop rotation. Choose fields where no legume crops have been planted in the previous two seasons.

2. Sowing. For plastic film mulching cultivation, sow in mid-to-late March; for open-field cultivation, sow in early-to-mid April. The sowing rate is about 8 kg per mu.

3. Planting density. Row spacing 30 cm, hill spacing 10-15 cm, sow 2-3 seeds per hill, and maintain 2-2.5 plants per mu.

4. Fertilizer and water management. Apply base fertilizer per mu with 5 kg pure nitrogen, 5 kg phosphorus pentoxide, and 5 kg potassium oxide. At the flowering stage, apply a top dressing of 5 kg pure nitrogen per mu. After flowering and pod setting, keep the soil moist.

5. Pest, disease, and weed control. Use herbicides to control weeds after sowing and before emergence, and promptly control pests and diseases.

6. Harvest. When the seeds are plump and full and the pods are green, harvest the green pods at the appropriate time for market.
