What are the characteristics of the Wa 8801 soybean variety?
Variety source: Bred by the Wafangdian City Agricultural Extension Center through sexual hybridization.
Characteristics: Determinate podding habit, plant height 90-100cm, thick and sturdy stems, main stem with 19 nodes, 15 branches, one inflorescence at the top of the main stem, white flowers, multiple short fruiting branches on the middle and upper parts, high pod-setting rate, plump seeds, round leaves, gray pubescence, lush growth after flowering, and green-stem maturity. Seeds are yellow with a yellow hilum, 100-seed weight 22-23g, and complete-seed rate of about 96%. The spring-sowing growth period in this city is about 137 days. Strong disease resistance.
Cultivation points: Select plots with medium-to-upper fertility that have not been planted to soybean in the previous year or the year before for sole cropping. Apply about 1000kg of high-quality farm manure per mu as base fertilizer. For seed fertilizer, mostly use about 15kg of compound fertilizer per mu, or 8-10kg of diammonium carbonate plus 10-12kg of potassium sulfate, or 8-10kg of potassium chloride. When applying, it must be kept separate from the seeds to prevent seed burning. The best sowing time is around May 1. For hole sowing, keep 1.0-1.3 ten thousand plants per mu. After emergence, carry out manual thinning promptly according to the required density. Cultivate and ridge promptly, and control diseases and pests. At the last ridging before flowering, apply 7-8kg of urea per mu as topdressing.
Trial and demonstration situation: In 1997, it participated in the Liaoning Province soybean variety regional trial, with an average yield of 138.4kg per mu across 9 sites.
