Introduction of the new giant-seed soybean variety Biannuo 80
This soybean has a plant height of 80-100 cm, a large plant type, broad leaves, and fan-shaped branching. Each plant bears 100-300 pods. The beans are flat-oval (different from the lower-yielding "Niutabian" soybean, which has flat seeds), with yellow seeds and yellow hilum. They cook easily until soft, are very glutinous, and taste incomparably delicious. The 100-seed weight of dry beans is 65-75 grams, with a maximum of 80 grams, hence the name "Biannuo 80", making it worthy of being called a giant-seed soybean; the size of fresh beans is even more astonishing! This soybean matures in about 145 days when spring-sown, and in about 115 days when summer-sown. The row spacing is 80-100 cm, with 1 seed sown per point at a plant spacing of 15 cm, or 2 seeds per point at a plant spacing of 30 cm. The seeding rate is about 5 kg per mu, and the average yield is about 300 kg per mu. With sparse planting, high fertilizer and water, and careful cultivation management, plus spraying the growth-promoting and controlling agent PBOC to give full play to its yield-increasing potential, the yield per mu can break through the 500 kg mark. Whether this variety is suitable for planting in the north still awaits experimental study.
