What are the methods for controlling pests in off-season shiitake mushrooms?
Off-season cultivation of shiitake mushrooms refers to cultivation production in which shiitake mushrooms fruit from June to September. During this season, pests are rampant. If control measures are not adequate, yield and mushroom quality will be affected, so control should be strengthened. The main measures are: thoroughly clean up pest sources and thoroughly clean the toilets, chicken coops, and garbage piles around the mushroom shed. It is best if they can be relocated. If they cannot be relocated, regular pesticide spraying for pest control can be carried out. Particular attention should be paid to eggs in large manure piles. Among them, eggs of fungus gnats and manure flies can be killed through measures such as high-temperature fermentation and surface spraying.
Regular pesticide use outside the shed. For contiguous shed areas, a combined or centralized pesticide application method can be adopted. Within 50 meters outside the shed, apply pesticide centrally once a week. The pesticide is an 800-fold dichlorvos solution. For isolated mushroom sheds, pesticide can be applied regularly around the mushroom shed.
Drug-based pest repellent inside the shed. Prepare a 200- to 300-fold highly effective pest repellent solution and spray it once every 2 to 4 days according to pest density. The focus of spraying is at places such as doorways and ventilation openings. During the fruiting period, nontoxic drugs can also be sprayed directly on the fruiting bodies.
Set up protection for the mushroom shed. At places connected to the outside such as ventilation openings and doorways of the mushroom shed, high-density insect-proof nets should be added; or a method of ordinary window screening plus a layer of cotton mask cloth can be used to prevent adult mushroom gnats and mushroom flies from flying in.
