How is the new soybean variety Kexin No. 4?
I. Variety origin
Bred in 1998 by the Institute of Genetics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; original code: 96-274. This variety was developed from Yudou No. 2 seeds through chemical mutation technology combined with pedigree selection. It was approved by Beijing in 2002.
II. Characteristics
A medium-maturity spring soybean variety with semi-determinate podding habit and a full growth period of 135-136 days. Plant height 100-105 cm, oval leaves, purple flowers, gray pubescence, yellow-brown pods, partial leaf drop at maturity, non-shattering pods. Main stem node number 20-21 nodes, podding height 23-24 cm, effective branch number 1-2, pods per plant 54-58, seeds per plant 87-98, seed weight per plant 15-17 g, 100-seed weight 18-19 g. Seeds are oblong, slightly glossy, with yellow seed coat and yellow hilum. Average yield in regional trials 169.9 kg per mu, average yield in production trials 156.3 kg per mu.
This variety has strong comprehensive resistance: field identification in regional trials showed resistance to mosaic virus disease, seed purple spot rate and brown spot rate both below 1.3%, and strong lodging resistance (lodging degree below grade 2).
Quality analysis: seed protein content 41.72%, fat content 20.60%.
III. Key cultivation techniques
The suitable spring sowing period in the Beijing area is May 10-20. Keep 11,000-12,000 plants per mu, with a single plant per hill, ensuring full, uniform and strong seedlings.
Either uniform drilling in furrows or hill planting is acceptable; after sowing, cover with soil to a depth of 2-3 cm. Apply sufficient basal fertilizer before sowing (organic fertilizer or diammonium phosphate), topdress with 20 jin of urea per mu at early flowering, and combine with one thorough irrigation.
This variety has strong disease resistance; when damage from leaf-feeding and seed-feeding pests occurs, spray pesticides promptly for control.
This variety has non-shattering pods and partially stays green at maturity, so timely harvest at maturity or delaying harvest by a few days is acceptable.
IV. Suitable planting areas
Suitable for spring sowing cultivation in the Beijing area.
