The new soybean variety Nenfeng 16 was developed by the Nenjiang Agricultural Research Institute of the Heilongjiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1992 through sexual hybridization using Nen 8422-3 as the female parent and Nen 79705-16 as the male parent, with the cross combination number 9232. The F1 generation was planted in 1993, and south propagation for generation advancement was carried out that winter. The F3 generation was planted in 1994, and the F4 was selected in 1995, with the code Nen 9232-8. From 1996 to 1997, in-house identification, variety comparison trials and off-site identification trials were conducted. From 1998 to 1999, it participated in

The F3 generation was planted in 1994, and the F4 was selected in 1995, with the code Nen 9232-8. From 1996 to 1997, in-house identification, variety comparison trials and off-site identification trials were conducted. From 1998 to 1999, it participated in the Heilongjiang Provincial Regional Trial, and in 2000, a production trial was conducted.

This variety has pointed leaves, white flowers, gray pubescence, a semi-determinate podding habit, and a main-stem type, with a plant height of 80-100 cm. The stalks are strong, the internodes are short, and the pods are densely set, with many three- and four-seeded pods. The seeds are round and large, with a 100-seed weight of about 27 g. The seed coat is yellow and glossy, and the hilum is yellow. The growth period is 118-120 d, requiring an active accumulated temperature of 2400°C. The protein content is 41.19%, and the oil content is 20.11%. It is resistant to frogeye leaf spot and relatively fond of fertilizer and water.

The average yield in the in-house identification was 2632.6 kg/hm2, an increase of 14.0% over the control variety Nenfeng 14. In the 1997 off-site identification, the average yield was 3204.8 kg/hm2, an increase of 16.3% over the control variety Nenfeng 14. In the 1998 provincial regional trial, all 4 site-times showed increased yield, with an average yield of 2200 kg/hm2, an increase of 10.5% over the control variety Nenfeng 14.

In the provincial regional trial, all 4 site-times showed increased yield, with an average yield of 2464.8 kg/hm2, an increase of 13.8% over the control variety Nenfeng 14. In the two-year regional trial from 1998 to 1999, the average yield was 2332 kg/hm2, an increase of 12.2% over the control variety Nenfeng 14.

In the production trial, all 5 site-times showed increased yield, with an average yield of 2073.2 kg/hm2, an increase of 17.6% over the control variety Nenfeng 14.

This variety has an oil content of 20.11% and a protein content of 41.19%, belonging to the double-high category. This year, Wuyi Village, Xinhua Township, Suihua City introduced 6000 kg of this variety and registered it nationally as "Wuyi" soybean, preparing to export it to Japan. This variety has large seeds, with a 100-seed weight of about 27 g, good market quality, and is suitable for puffed foods, for export to South Korea. In addition, because of its large seeds, this variety is suitable for edamame. The application prospects of Nenfeng 16 are very promising. This variety has the advantages of good quality, high yield, strong disease resistance, and relatively wide adaptability. Over the past few years, through large-scale trials and demonstrations, it has been deeply favored by the vast number of farmers and welcomed by the seed sector. It is expected that its promotion area will continue to expand and will create enormous economic and social benefits.

Region and techniques: This variety is relatively fond of fertilizer and water, and has greater yield-increasing potential under good fertilizer and water conditions. It is advisable to choose plots with medium-to-high fertility and to sow early at the proper time. When planted in suitable areas of Heilongjiang Province, sow in early May. Apply 15 t/hm2 of organic fertilizer, 150-225 kg/hm2 of diammonium phosphate as seed fertilizer, and 150 kg/hm2 of urea as topdressing. Generally, maintain 260,000-280,000 plants/hm2, with a seeding rate of 60-80 kg/hm2. This variety is suitable for planting in the first accumulated temperature zone and the upper limit area of the second accumulated temperature zone of Heilongjiang.
