Detailed Introduction to High-Yield Giant-Grain King Soybean Varieties
I. Giant-Grain King No. 1
Giant-Grain King No. 1 is a newly bred novel giant-grain soybean line. This variety has extra-large seeds, with a 100-seed weight of 40-50 grams, maximum 60 grams, light brown hilum, round and plump, golden and shiny, easy to thresh, with good appearance and marketability. The green pods have white hairs; sold as large-grain green edamame, it is popular in the market, and sold as dry beans, it is so attractive one cannot put it down. This variety has a plant height of 60-80 cm, a well-developed root system, thick and sturdy stems, high resistance to lodging, a fan-shaped plant type, purple flowers, 6-8 branches per plant, short internodes, and many pods. Generally, about 300 pods per plant, with some reaching more than 500; determinate podding habit, mostly 3 seeds per pod. Because its seeds are extra-large, a single plant produces 350-500 grams of dry beans, with a typical single plant producing 700 grams of soybeans, and a general yield of 400-500 kg per mu. It can be saved for seed and used continuously.
Cultivation points: Apply 2-3 cubic meters of farmyard manure per mu as a base fertilizer, or 50-100 kg of NPK compound fertilizer. In addition, combine insect control with foliar topdressing. For spring sowing, plant spacing 33 x 66 cm, 3000 plants per mu; for summer sowing, plant spacing 25-29 x 66 cm, 3500-4000 plants per mu. When the weather is cool, the soil is cool and the water is cool, you can seize the moisture and directly open furrows for dibbling, striving for full emergence in one sowing, with about 2-4 kg of seed per mu. To control nematode disease, underground pests, etc., an appropriate amount of Xianjing granules can be scattered in the sowing furrow.
Giant-Grain King No. 1 has a moderate growth period and can be planted in spring and summer. Spring sowing takes 125-145 days (PBOG growth regulator must be sprayed), and summer sowing takes 105 days. It has strong adaptability and can be planted in most areas of northern and southern China. It is a rare new superior variety of super-high-yield giant-grain soybean and is worth promptly introducing and propagating.
II. Giant-Grain King No. 2
Giant-Grain King No. 2 has a plant height of 80-100 cm, a large-plant type, broad leaves, fan-shaped branching, 100-300 pods per plant, and flat oval-shaped beans (different from the lower-yielding flat-grain "Niutabian" soybean), yellow seeds with yellow hilum, easy to soften when cooked, full of glutinousness, and incomparably delicious. The 100-seed weight of dry beans is about 50 grams, with the largest exceeding 60 grams, truly deserving the title of Giant-Grain King soybean; the size of the fresh beans is even more astonishing! This soybean matures in about 145 days when spring-sown and about 115 days when summer-sown. Row spacing 80-100 cm, plant spacing 15-20 cm with 1 seed per hole, or plant spacing 30-40 cm with 2 seeds per hole, about 5 kg of seed per mu, with an average yield of 200-300 kg per mu. With sparse planting, high fertilizer and water, careful management, and spraying of the PBOG growth regulator, its yield-increasing potential can be fully realized. Whether this variety is suitable for planting in the north still awaits experimental study.
