Soybean molecular breeding technology successfully developed by South Korea

The Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of South Korea's Rural Development Administration recently successfully developed a soybean molecular breeding technology, which means that South Korea's mass production of organic soybeans containing anti-cancer components will become a reality. South Korea's regeneration technology for soybean plant bodies through tissue culture is not well developed, so trait-transformed soybeans are mainly imported from the United States. The Rural Development Administration revealed that molecular breeding technology is called third-generation genetic engineering technology. Using this technology, soybeans with higher added value can be produced, which is of great significance for increasing farmers' income.

The molecular breeding method is also called the genetic engineering breeding method. It involves recombining foreign (extracted from other organisms) or artificially synthesized DNA (or RNA) molecular fragments at the molecular level by artificial means, then introducing them into the cells of a "recipient" organism through a certain vector, combining them with the original DNA, so that the offspring "express" the genetic traits controlled by the genetic information carried by the newly introduced DNA (or RNA), thereby rapidly, stably and directionally creating new varieties (or new species). This modern breeding method differs from general breeding in that it breaks through the boundary of "species," thereby greatly expanding the scope of gene exchange. It is the concrete application of the theoretical and technical achievements of molecular genetics in breeding science.
This "new process," also called "gene transfer" or "gene grafting," can enable people to transform or reconstruct biological heredity as accurately as an engineer carrying out construction according to a pre-designed blueprint, creating new varieties or new species that general breeding methods cannot create. The molecular breeding method will bring about a revolution in breeding technology, entering a new stage that is more precise and more purpose-driven, showing enticing prospects.
