Control Methods for Soybean Bacterial Blight
Symptoms: It damages seedlings, leaves, petioles, stems and pods. When seedlings are infected, the cotyledons develop semicircular or nearly circular brown spots. When leaves are infected, irregular chlorotic small spots initially appear, water-soaked, and after expanding they become polygonal or irregular in shape, about 3-4mm in size, with the center of the lesion dark brown to blackish brown, surrounded by a narrow chlorotic halo ring, and after the lesions merge they form dead necrotic patches. When the stem is infected, it initially presents as dark brown water-soaked elongated strips, which after expanding become irregular and slightly sunken. When pods and seeds are infected, dark brown streak spots develop.
Control methods: (1) Rotate with gramineous crops for more than 3 years. (2) Select disease-resistant varieties. At present, China has bred a number of soybean varieties that are relatively resistant to bacterial blight, such as Kehuang No. 2, Xuzhou 424, Nan 493-1, Peixian Dabaijiao, etc. (3) Apply compost fermented with Japanese enzyme bacteria or fully decomposed organic fertilizer. (4) Before sowing, dress seeds with 50% thiram at 0.3% of seed weight. (5) In the early stage of the disease, spray 1:1:160 Bordeaux mixture or 30% Ludeobao suspension at 400 times dilution, and apply 1 or 2 treatments depending on the disease severity.
