Introduction to New Soybean Line 90-77-2
New soybean line 90-77-2 was developed by the Dryland Crops Research Institute of the Jiangxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1987 through artificial hybridization and selection using the high-yielding variety Aijiaoqing and Gandou No. 1. It is a summer-autumn dual-purpose soybean with advantages such as a moderate maturity period, high yield and good quality, thick stems, tolerance to heavy fertilization and resistance to lodging, wide adaptability, and temperature tolerance.
Grown as a summer soybean, 90-77-2 has a whole growth period of about 140 days, a sub-determinate podding habit, purple flowers, brown pubescence, and medium-sized leaves that are dark and thick. The plant is tall (about 90 cm), with strong branching, thick stems, tolerance to heavy fertilization and resistance to lodging, about 230 pods per plant, green seed coats, and a 100-seed weight of 30 g. It can be grown for use as edamame. Its protein content is as high as 47.3%, and its fat content is 20.2%, giving it good market quality. Grown as an autumn soybean, it has a whole growth period of about 110 days, a plant height of about 75 cm, 3-4 branches, 45-60 pods per plant, and a 100-seed weight of 26-28 g. In Jiangxi, the average yield per 667 sq m (1 mu) is about 220 kg.
