Introduction to the superior soybean variety Guixia No. 2
Variety approval number: Gui Shen Dou 2004003
Breeding unit: Maize Research Institute of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region
Variety source: Developed through sexual hybridization using the Guangxi farmer variety "Fusui Huangdou" as the female parent and "Gui 190" (Pingguo Dou × Qingrenniao) as the male parent.
Registration unit: Maize Research Institute of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region
Characteristics: This variety is an early-maturing summer soybean variety with a growth period of about 96 days. It has a determinate pod-setting habit, purple flowers, brown pubescence, and relatively large, ovate leaves. Plant height is 55-65 cm, with 13-18 nodes on the main stem, 2.5 branches, 47.0 pods per plant, 82.0 seeds per plant, and a seed weight per plant of 12.6 g. The full-seed rate is 93.0%, and the 100-seed weight is 16.5 grams, with seeds medium to large in size. The pods are yellowish-brown, and the seeds are elliptical, yellow, and glossy, large, plump, and uniform in size, with a light brown hilum and good appearance quality. The protein content is 45.91%, and the fat content is 18.82%. The plants have thick and sturdy stems, are tolerant of heavy fertilization and resistant to lodging, with a compact plant type. At maturity, the stems remain green with waxy stalks, and they have good leaf drop, do not shatter pods, and are resistant to downy mildew and rust, among others, and relatively resistant to leaf-feeding insect pests and bean stem maggots.
Yield performance: From 2000 to 2002, it participated in the autonomous region's summer soybean trials. Over three years and three crops, the average yield per mu was 137.4 kg, an increase of 5.4% over the control variety Guixia No. 1.
Key points of cultivation technology: (1) Prepare the land carefully and apply sufficient base fertilizer. Deep plowing, harrowing, and leveling are required. Apply 500 kg of organic base fertilizer per mu plus 25 kg of calcium magnesium phosphate fertilizer mixed into the sowing furrow. (2) Sow at the right time: mid-May to early July is the suitable sowing period. (3) Reasonable close planting: sparse planting is suitable for fertile land, and dense planting for poor land. For pure planting, the density per mu should be 13,000-20,000 plants, and for intercropping or relay cropping, about 15,000 plants per mu is appropriate. (4) Planting method and spacing: dibbling is best, generally with a row spacing of about 50 cm and a hill spacing of 15-20 cm, sowing 3-4 seeds per hill, and keeping 2 plants per hill after emergence. (5) Timely thinning, gap filling, and final thinning: seedlings emerge 3-5 days after sowing. When the soybean seedlings grow their first pair of true leaves, thin, fill gaps, and finalize the stand in time to ensure sufficient plant numbers. (6) Timely intertillage, weeding, hilling, and topdressing: after final thinning, carry out one intertillage, weeding, and hilling in time, and combine it with one seedling fertilizer topdressing: generally apply 5 kg of urea per mu plus 10 kg of potassium chloride, or 5 kg of urea plus 15 kg of compound fertilizer. If plant growth is poor, apply another topdressing at the flowering and podding stage.
Review opinion of the autonomous region variety approval committee: After review, this variety meets the Guangxi soybean variety approval standards, has passed approval, and can be planted in soybean production areas throughout the region.
