Through research, researchers in our laboratory successfully bred in 1993 the high-temperature-type four-spore mushroom "Xiagu 93" (formerly named "Zhe AgH-1") suitable for summer cultivation, filling the gap in China's summer mushroom cultivation varieties. This enables mushrooms in China to be grown for more than two seasons a year. The fruiting period of high-temperature mushrooms coincides with the off-season for various edible fungi, when the supply of fresh mushrooms is interrupted, and the price is 3 to 5 times higher than in peak season. It has already been promoted in more than 20 provinces and cities including Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, and **, and local governments and mushroom

This enables mushrooms in China to be grown for more than two seasons a year. The fruiting period of high-temperature mushrooms coincides with the off-season for various edible fungi, when the supply of fresh mushrooms is interrupted, and the price is 3 to 5 times higher than in peak season. It has already been promoted in more than 20 provinces and cities including Zhejiang, Sichuan, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Fujian, Guangdong, Hunan, and **, and local governments and mushroom farmers have introduced and promoted this variety and its cultivation techniques as a profitable agriculture project. This variety was recognized by the Zhejiang Provincial Variety Certification Committee in April 2000. The main characteristics of this variety are as follows: 1. High temperature tolerance: the suitable temperature for mycelium is 24°C to 36°C, with the optimum at 26°C to 32°C; the suitable fruiting temperature is 25°C to 34°C, with the optimum fruiting temperature at 27°C to 32°C. It can continue to grow at 38°C and can tolerate a high temperature of 40°C. 2. High yield: yield per unit area is 7.5 to 15 kg per sq m. 3. Good mushroom quality: the mushrooms are round and neat, pure white, delicious in taste, not prone to discoloration, and tolerant of storage and transport. According to trial sales by foreign merchants, they can be kept fresh under refrigeration for more than 8 days. 4. Wide sources of raw materials, simple cultivation, and low investment: the main raw material is rice and wheat straw. Cultivation is roughly the same as that of Agaricus bisporus, and existing mushroom houses and greenhouses can be used for cultivation during the summer idle period or in medium-sized sheds on the ground. The spawn we provide is pure in variety and stable in strain characteristics, with a complete and mature high-yield cultivation technology package (including pest and disease control techniques). When introducing the variety and learning the techniques, please note: we have so far not taught or authorized any unit or individual to use the unique spawn preservation and propagation techniques of high-temperature mushrooms.
