In forests, in grassy areas, and beside piles of manure and straw, people often see wild mushrooms pushing up through the ground. Because many people do not know the difference between poisonous and non-poisonous mushrooms, they sometimes pick poisonous mushrooms and take them home to eat. Cases of accidentally eating poisonous mushrooms occur from time to time, and there have even been deaths. For this reason, the relevant authorities remind the public not to blindly pick and eat wild mushrooms, so as to ensure food safety. Recently it has also been found that some farmers' markets are selling poisonous mushrooms. Wild mushrooms that you do not recognize and have never eaten must absolutely not be easily bought and eaten.

Everyone knows that mushrooms are delicious, but in present-day life not everyone knows that some mushrooms are poisonous. Generally, it is very difficult to accurately identify with the naked eye which are poisonous and which are not. Therefore, after eating them indiscriminately, poisoning can easily occur. Eating even a small amount of a poisonous mushroom can cause death.

According to reports in the literature, China has more than 80 species of poisonous mushrooms, of which more than 20 are relatively common. Among them, 9 species are severely toxic and can kill people. Clinically, the toxins of these poisonous mushrooms mainly cause the following types of harm to the human body: liver damage type, neuropsychiatric type, gastrointestinal type, and hemolytic type, among others. Symptoms generally appear 6 to 24 hours after eating, with vomiting at the initial stage, followed by abdominal pain and diarrhea. In severe cases, toxic myocarditis or toxic encephalopathy may occur, and the condition deteriorates rapidly. If not treated promptly, death can occur within 1 to 2 days.

In order to avoid the harm that poisonous mushrooms cause to the human body, people should possess some basic knowledge for identifying poisonous mushrooms. For example, poisonous mushrooms have a ring on the stem and a sac-like volva at the base. The stem is very difficult to tear open by hand. After being broken, they exude a white or yellow juice with a pungent taste. Some poisonous mushrooms are relatively bright and attractive in color, with red, purple, yellow, or other mottled spots on the cap, a red base, and an abnormal shape. Some give off a pungent, foul, or bitter taste. Some people, relying on experience, believe that as long as mushrooms are boiled together with garlic or silverware and the garlic does not turn black, the mushrooms can be eaten; in fact, this is very unscientific. At present, the world medical community still has no specific antidote for mushroom poisoning, and if the poisoning is relatively severe, it will be impossible to save the person. After eating wild mushrooms, if symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea appear, simple methods should immediately be used to induce vomiting, wash the stomach, promote defecation, or give an enema as emergency treatment. At the same time, the person should be sent to a hospital for diagnosis and treatment as soon as possible, so as to avoid danger to life.
