Illustrated Tutorial on How to Plant and Grow Bowl Lotus
Bowl lotus, also called bowl lotus or pot lotus, is a lotus grown inside a bowl, specifically for display on indoor tables to beautify the living environment.

If bowl lotus is cultivated properly, it can produce flowers only about 5 cm in diameter, dainty and exquisite, with outstanding grace. Then, when it is in full flower and leaf, prune it so that it becomes well-spaced and beautifully arranged, and place miniature ornaments such as small hills, boats, bridges, chickens and ducks in the bowl. This can indeed create a fascinating artistic conception, full of elegant charm.
1. Sowing time: Lotus seeds have no dormant period. As long as the water temperature can be kept above 16°C, they can be sown in all four seasons. Under suitable temperature and light conditions, lotus seeds take 50-60 days from sowing to flowering in spring, and 60-80 days in autumn.
2. Seed treatment: The outer shell of lotus seeds is hard and tightly sealed, so before soaking the seeds, you must make an opening by hand. One end of the lotus seed has a small pointed tip, and the other end has a small dent. Rub the end with the small dent on rough cement ground until it breaks, or use pliers to crack a small opening. Be careful not to crush the seed embryo, and do not remove the shell.
3. Soaking seeds to promote germination: A summer water temperature of 20°C-30°C is very suitable for lotus seed germination. Depending on the number of seeds, use a bowl or basin to hold water, just enough to submerge the seeds. Place indoors and change the water twice a day; they can germinate within 1 week. After sprouting, place them in a sunny spot, strengthen light exposure, and do not let them lack water. After 2 weeks, fine roots and 2-3 young tender small lotus leaves grow. When the leaves are like coins and the root system has formed, they can be divided and transplanted.

Planting method
Seed treatment
To increase the germination rate of bowl lotus, treat the seeds before planting.
A lotus seed is pointed at one end and round at the other. Make a small opening at the round end by rubbing it on rough cement ground or cracking it with a file.
Soaking seeds to promote germination
Bowl lotus seeds are very hard, so they must be soaked in warm water, changing the water 2-3 times a day.
After about two days, small sprouts can be seen, and after about 5 days the sprouts will grow very long. Once the sprouts gradually lengthen, they can be transplanted into a pot.
Transplanting the sprouts
Choose a ceramic pot or plastic flower pot with a closed bottom. Add garden soil or river-pond mud to the pot, add water to soak, and do not fertilize. Press the fine roots of the young seedlings into the mud, one plant per pot, add an appropriate amount of water, and do not let the water submerge the small lotus leaves.
Spread sand for landscaping
Buy a little sand from an aquarium shop and sprinkle a layer over the mud. Sprinkle the sand in several batches and try to spread it evenly over the whole container. This will make the water clear. Change the water at appropriate times; small fish can be kept in the water. The fish eat insects in the water, and their droppings can also serve as flower fertilizer, making it both beautiful and beneficial, killing two birds with one stone.
Precautions
When treating the seeds, do not remove the shell, and especially do not crush the seed embryo, otherwise it will be very difficult for them to germinate.
When soaking seeds to promote germination, keep the water temperature between 20-40 degrees. If the water temperature is above 40 degrees, seed growth will be restricted; if the water temperature is below 20 degrees, seed germination will be very slow. When soaking seeds to promote germination, promptly remove seeds that cannot germinate. If they still have not germinated after 7 days, they can be considered a lost cause.
Be sure to give bowl lotus sufficient sunlight for growth.

Illustrated Guide to Bowl Lotus Planting Methods
Bowl lotus is widely loved for its small and exquisite appearance. Many people are willing to place such a pot of bowl lotus in a corner of their home, and many are also willing to grow it themselves starting from a single seed, quietly watching the moment it blooms. Today I will teach everyone how to cultivate a bowl lotus starting from a single seed.
Key points of this article
Bowl lotus seeds, small knife or file, pot
Select plump and healthy seeds from the purchased seeds and soak them in water for a few hours.
One end of a bowl lotus seed is a raised small point, and the other end is a sunken small black point. Use a small knife to gradually cut away the seed coat at the sunken end, or use a file to gradually grind away the seed coat on the sunken side. Once it is opened, the seed will germinate more easily.
Fill a basin with water and soak the seeds in it. The water does not need to be too deep; just enough to cover the seeds is fine. Be careful to change the water every day, and do not let the temperature get too low; keep it above 20 degrees.
After a few days, the seeds begin to sprout, and you still need to pay attention to changing the water. After eight or nine days, if some seeds still have not sprouted, they should be promptly removed to avoid affecting water quality. At first I had five seeds, but in the end only three germinated, and afterward I moved them into a slightly larger basin.
In the days that follow, you still need to pay attention to changing the water, but the frequency no longer needs to be so high, about once every two or three days. Be careful to give them sunlight.
When the bowl lotus has grown about its second leaf, add an appropriate amount of soil to the pot to stabilize the plant.
In the days after that, the bowl lotus still needs to be kept in sunlight, and when adding water, be careful not to let it fall on the bowl lotus leaves, otherwise when the sunlight is too strong, the spots on the leaves with water droplets will be sunburned. When it is about to bloom, be careful to add some flower fertilizer.
