Clever Fertilization in the Late Stage of Cotton: Disease Prevention and Yield Increase at the Same Time
In the late growth stage of cotton, the root system's ability to absorb nutrients declines noticeably, but if fertilizers such as nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, zinc and boron are sprayed on the cotton leaves, they can prevent premature senescence, promote early maturity, prevent disease, prevent boll shedding and help set large bolls, with a significant yield-increasing effect.
1. Apply nitrogen fertilizer to prevent premature senescence: each time use 75-100 kg of 1% urea solution per mu, spray once every 5-7 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays, which can enhance leaf photosynthesis and prevent premature senescence and increase yield.
2. Apply phosphorus fertilizer to promote early maturity: in the late stage of cotton, spraying phosphorus fertilizer on the leaves can promote full seeds, increase boll weight and advance boll opening. The method is to use 1000 g of superphosphate plus 50 kg of water, soak for 12 hours and then spray, with a dosage of 75 kg per mu.
3. Apply potassium fertilizer to prevent disease: in the late stage of cotton, potassium deficiency makes wilt disease likely during the boll-setting period, causing severe yield reduction in cotton. The method for spraying potassium fertilizer on cotton leaves is to use 75-100 kg of 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution per mu, spray the whole plant, for 2-3 consecutive sprays.
4. Apply zinc fertilizer to prevent boll shedding: in the late stage of cotton, zinc deficiency is likely, causing local chlorosis of leaves, wilting of young leaves and shedding of newly set young bolls, making it hard to keep the top bolls. The method for spraying zinc on cotton leaves is to spray 75 kg of 0.1%-0.2% zinc sulfate or zinc chloride solution per mu, once every 5-7 days, for 2-3 consecutive sprays.
5. Apply boron fertilizer to set large bolls: in the late growth stage of cotton, boron deficiency is likely, raising the node position of fruiting branches and increasing side branches, resulting in fewer flowers and small bolls and lower yield; timely spraying of boron fertilizer helps set more bolls and larger bolls. Generally, spray 100 kg of 0.2% boric acid solution at the full flowering stage, for 2-3 consecutive sprays.
