What conditions must be met for tea plant cultivation
I. Requirements for climate
1. Sunlight Sunlight is the primary condition for the survival of tea plants; it must be neither too strong nor too weak. Tea plants have a special preference for ultraviolet light, which is why high mountains produce good tea.
2. Temperature This refers to both air temperature and soil temperature. The daily average air temperature needs to be 10°C; the lowest must not fall below -10°C. 3. Moisture Sufficient rainfall is a necessary condition. However, excessive rain can also adversely affect quality.
II. Requirements for soil Generally, the soil layer should be more than 1 m deep and free of limestone, with organic matter content of 1%-2% or more, and good aeration, permeability, or water-holding capacity. The pH value should preferably be 4.5__6.5.
III. Requirements for terrain In 1958, Chairman Mao proposed: "In the future, we should open up many more tea gardens on hillsides." This is due to our country's national conditions. The terrain conditions for tea gardens mainly include altitude, slope, and slope aspect. As altitude increases, temperature and humidity change noticeably. In mountainous areas at a certain height, rainfall is abundant, there is much mist and cloud, air humidity is high, and diffuse light is strong, which is beneficial to the growth of tea plants. However, higher is not always better; above 1000 m, there will be freeze damage. Generally, a south-facing slope is preferable. The slope should not be too steep, generally required to be below 30 degrees.
