The first batch of IGP-certified Spanish TONO oranges will arrive at the Shanghai Huizhan market in the coming days.Spain is the EU's largest producer and exporter of fresh oranges, and its privileged geographical location and excellent Mediterranean climate are highly suitable for the growth of citrus fruits such as oranges, mandarins and lemons. TONO is based in Valencia, Spain's famous fresh orange-producing region, and has a long history of growing oranges. It has long been recognized in the European market for its balanced sweet-and-sour taste, delicate and juicy texture and rich vitamin C content, and it has also enjoyed a high reputation since entering China.

Spain's citrus industry is highly developed, with a high degree of automation; planting, harvesting and packing are all carried out through mechanized precision operations. However, in order to further improve the quality and international competitiveness of citrus, the Valencia production region has added human supervision to the precision mechanical operations. Mr. Juan told us that IGP certification is the abbreviation of “Protected Geographical Indication (Spanish: Indicación Geográfica Protegida)” and is issued after review by a special committee made up of 15 citrus growers, exporters and government officials from the Valencia production region. This certification label has been used for all qualifying citrus fruits from the Valencia production region, including TONO oranges.
