A Simple Method for Rapid Mycelial Colonization of Oyster Mushroom Production Bags

Mushroom Cultivation 0 views
After inoculation of oyster mushrooms grown in bags, it generally takes 25-30 days for the mycelium to fully colonize the bag. The longer the colonization time, the greater the chance of contamination by competing microorganisms, and the longer the production cycle. To shorten the colonization time and improve economic returns, here is a simple method for rapid mycelial colonization of oyster mushroom production bags. At the center of both ends of the oyster mushroom production bag, use a pointed rod 2-3 cm in diameter and 30 cm long to make a hole, with the hole depth reaching more than half of the substrate bag. Then place an appropriate amount of spawn into the rod hole, and also place on the substrate surface at the bag end more

Then place an appropriate amount of spawn into the rod hole, and also place on the substrate surface at the bag end 10% more spawn than the conventional inoculation amount, ensuring that the substrate surface and all surrounding areas are fully covered with spawn. Then seal the opening with a piece of newspaper 8 cm x 8 cm and a rubber band. Then inoculate the other end in the same way, and colonization can begin.

Colonization should be adjusted according to temperature conditions. In hot seasons, arrange the oyster mushroom production bags in a "square" shape or "#" shape, with 4-5 layers per row, leaving certain gaps between rows for ventilation and heat dissipation; in medium and low temperature seasons, stack the oyster mushroom production bags layer by layer, with 5-6 layers per row, also leaving certain gaps between rows for air circulation.

During the colonization stage, temperature is crucial. For the first few days of colonization, control the temperature at 26-28°C to promote mycelial germination. After the mycelium germinates and begins feeding on the substrate for 1 day, keeping the temperature at 24-26°C is most suitable. The temperature should not be too low, otherwise it will prolong the colonization time; but it should also not be too high, otherwise it will burn the mycelium. Management of light, relative air humidity, ventilation, disinfection, and bag turning should follow conventional practices.

The key point of this method is hole inoculation and increasing the inoculation amount. The critical technical point lies in properly controlling the moisture of the bag substrate, with a water content of 65% being appropriate. The spawn should not be aged or contaminated; the mycelium should be white, thick, densely growing, highly viable, and vigorous. The inoculation room (box) and inoculation tools must be strictly sterilized, and the inoculation process must be standardized.
