Management Methods and Technical Key Points for Oyster Mushrooms After Casing Soil
1. Heat preservation and moisture retention: After the oyster mushroom substrate logs are covered with soil, keep the shed temperature at 10°C-15°C, and keep the bed surface moist for about 15 days, until granular mushroom buds appear on the bed surface. After 3-4 days, when the caps grow to 1 cm in diameter, ventilate appropriately for 1 hour at noon. After the mushroom clusters grow larger, ventilate for 1 hour each morning and evening until harvest. Do not water during the growth period of the oyster mushroom fruiting bodies, so as not to drown the young mushrooms or splash soil onto the gills, which would affect the quality and edible value of the oyster mushrooms.
2. Harvesting: Harvest when the oyster mushroom caps curl inward slightly or are flat. When harvesting, support the lower left side of the mycelium with your left hand, insert a blade with your right hand into the lower right side of the mushroom cluster, and cut gently. Never damage the surface of the substrate log.
3. Cleaning the bed surface: After picking the oyster mushrooms, clean up the stubble and scrape off the old mycelial skin.
4. Irrigation: After the bed surface is cleaned, flood-irrigate with a large amount of water to drown the contaminating microorganisms in the soil. During irrigation, if the soil filled between the substrate logs sinks, add new soil promptly.
5. Casing soil: The next day after irrigation, cover with soil and level the bed, with the bed surface 1 cm higher than the substrate logs.
In this way, after about 20 days, the second flush of mushrooms can be picked. If managed properly, the casing soil cultivation method can harvest 4-5 flushes of oyster mushrooms.
